Features

2013 St. Julian Reserve Riesling 750ml

This is a bright, clean wine designed to be consumed shortly after release. There is no oak aging to weigh it down. All aging took place in chilled stainless steel tanks before bottling to preserve the fresh fruit character.

Absolutely pure in flavor, harmonious and well-proportioned in its architecture, this Riesling seems crisp and light, yet packs intense flavors of peach, mango, lemon zest and mineral. Its vivid acidity jammed with fruit leaves a wonderful sensation on the palate creating a luscious, food-friendly style. Literally, like liquid fruit!

The Vineyard: Magnificant Mile - With farming roots coming from Germany, the Nitz family started growing juice grapes in Southwest Michigan in the 1940's as a grower for Welch's and home winemakers. In 1971, the farm started planting wine grape varietals. Dan Nitz, the fourth generation grower in the family, currently manages over 250 acres of juice grapes and 260 acres of wine grapes while employing more than twenty employees year round. As the farm continues to focus on wine grape varietals, Dan Nitz's passion for grape growing is evident in our wines.

2013 St. Julian Reserve Late Harvest Riesling 750ml

St. Julian has developed a style of late harvest Riesling that is crisp yet moderately sweet. A classic late harvest style wine, at 22.0 brix level of ripeness, the wine develops its trademark tangerine and apricot flavors. Aromas of citrus, stone fruit, and honey are followed by flavors of apricot, tangerine, and cream, along with a slight mineral edge. Acidity and sweetness are nicely balanced on the palate, making this Late Harvest Riesling a versatile food wine.

2013 St. Julian Reserve Traminette 750ml

This is a bright, clean wine designed to be consumed shortly after release. There is no oak aging to weigh it down. All aging took place in chilled stainless steel tanks before bottling to preserve the fresh fruit character. Crisp acidity and a hint of sweetness create the perfect framework on which flavors of peach, mango, apple and lemon zest dance. The long, satisfying finish begs another sip. The racy structure is the perfect accompaniment of shellfish, seafood and Asian cuisine.

The winemaking begins in the vineyard, with our winemaker tasting the grapes weekly to know when it is time to harvest. To preserve fruit flavors, grapes were harvested in the early morning hours, and then gently pressed without crushing, to avoid any harsh extractions. Fermentation temperatures were maintained at 58-62 degrees F to preserve Traminette's fruity, Gewurztraminer-like character. A special strain of yeast was used in order to arrest the fermentation, meaning that the residual sugar remaining in this wine is natural from the grape.

The Vineyard: Traminette is part of Hollywood Hills Vineyards. Currently growing 8 commercial varietals, Mike and Sandra Nitz have owned their farm since 1975. With over 100 years of grape growing history in the Nitz family, Hollywood Hills is a hands on farm, recently converting all of their grape acreage into wine grape varietals. Passionate about growing grapes in Southwest Michigan, Hollywood HIlls Vineyards has taken grape growing to a new level, planting 8 experimental varietals from Spain, Germany and France.Traminette is part of Hollywood Hills Vineyards. 2013 St. Julian Reserve Riesling 750ml

Winemaking: The winemaking technique used to produce this wine begins in the vineyard. It is harvested in the early morning hours, so the fruit is cool when it reaches the winery. After harvesting, the fruit is crushed and destemmed to our Diemme membrane press. The juice is pressed to a tank, chilled and settled for 48 hours. The juice is then racked to a jacketed fermenter tank, where the wine undergoes a long, cool fermentation, which was 58-62F. This process extends the fermentation, which contributes to preserving Riesling’s fresh and fruity character. A special strain of yeast was used in order to arrest the fermentation, meaning that the residual sugar remaining in this wine is natural from the grape.

Food Pairing: Asian Dishes, Fresh Fruit, Sausage and Cold Cuts, Dips & Canapés, Blue-veined Cheese, Sushi

  • Appellation: Lake Michigan Shore
  • pH: 3.01
  • Residual Sugar: 0.9%
  • Alcohol: 11%
  • Acid: 9.9 grams per liter
  • Cases: 1490

2013 St. Julian Reserve Late Harvest Riesling 750ml

Winemaking: The 2013 vintage was harvested at 22.0 degrees Brix. To preserve fruit flavors, the raisin-like grapes were harvested in the early morning hours, and then gently pressed. The juice was then racked to a jacketed fermenter tank, where the wine undergoes a long, cool fermentation. This process extends the fermentation to 20-25 days, which contributes to the wines having powerful fruit aromas and lush flavors. Once the wine reaches the perfect brix to acid to alcohol balance, the fermentation is “arrested” meaning that it is stopped to retain the natural sugars from the grape, creating a perfectly balanced wine.
