Very, Very Advanced English
You should all be fluent in the English language by now, but may not have mastered some of its more impenetrable adages, sayings, and saws. So let's just dive in with the phrase "So Be It."
What does it mean? Mostly it just means "OK" or "Very Well." Actually, now that I mention it, "Very Well" is a pretty odd saying in its own right. "So Be It" could be restructured any number of ways. Why not "It is thus," "It is so," "So it is," or "It is?" Any of those could have worked, but "So Be It" has a subtle meaning that connotes giving up to greater forces.
For instance, if you were the Grand Chancellor of some country, and a neighboring country invaded you with a force of 140 brigades of cavalry and 100 brigades of dragoons, you might walk thoughtfully out onto your stone balcony, stare meaningfully at the horizon, and say with icy resolve, "So be it."
If that's unclear for any reason, I'll give another example. Say you and your son have had a long-term disagreement over the investiture of property upon your death. He wants the entire estate, whereas you want to carve out the meadow in the lowlands for your new peasant-turned-wife. You get in a particularly heated argument one day, and he storms out of the manor, screaming "Leave it all to your serf tart then, father, if that's who you really love." You might walk out onto your stone balcony, stare meaningfully at the horizon, and say with icy resolve, "So be it."
Well, that's all the time we have. Your homework is to use the phrase "So be it" as many times as you can in appropriate situations. I would recommend getting to work on your stone balconies right away.
