4 - 2013 Shannon Ridge Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Lake County
2013 Shannon Ridge Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Lake County
The Shannon Ridge Reserve Collection exemplifies our commitment to and mastery of sustainable farming. Our “Ovis Cycle” farming integrates sheep into the vineyards to control weeds, naturally fertilize the vines and provide wool and protein to our families. The fruit for this collection is carefully selected by our wine making team and produced from our premium vineyard blocks.
The 2013 vintage was long and sunny; an ideal season, but drought conditions remained. The dry spring brought concern, but two rainstorms in September alleviated any worry. The Indian summer allowed for long hang times and balanced fruit flavors with great concentration and a healthy crop.
This is a complex and full bodied wine from our top vineyard locations. The Red Hills AVA and volcanic soils provide ripe red fruits, bright cherry, dried tobacco, dark chocolate and soft tannins to the blend. This balances with Cabernet from the High Valley AVA; a cooler location, higher in elevation and more loam soils. This terroir adds cassis, herbal, and white pepper notes with a structured finish. The combination of these two Cabernet Sauvignon lots showcase the breadth of terroir in Lake County and our skills as farmers and vintners.
