we're bringing sexy 'bec

It's wine from the upside-down side of the world! Do the vines grow downward into the soil in Argentina? Do they have to stomp the grapes to get the skins back on? Are the stems on top of their wine glasses? We have so many questions about winemaking down there - questions that must go unanswered, because they are so stupid.

Whatever the deal is, these Recuerdo wines are perfectly right-side-up by the time they get here. The Malbec is as sensuous as a couple dancing the tango, and as fruity and spicy as a couple dancing the tango in a pie factory. The Torrontes is bright and fresh and zippy like some metaphor we can't think of, but don't hold our inarticulacy against it.

Maybe the right-side-up and upside-down halves of the world aren't so different. We can all agree that this Recuerdo six-pack is very delicious - or, as they would say in Argentina, snoᴉɔᴉlǝp ʎɹǝʌ.

The story begins in Mendoza, Argentina, in a rock-strewn vineyard encircled by majestic weeping willow trees. With a perfect view of the Andes Mountains, we frequently gather here to delight in a mid-day or evening asado. After a long meal in the vineyard, accompanied by plenty of wine (and good conversation, of course), we started to discuss a "Northern Hemisphere (38° North) meets Southern Hemisphere (32° South)" winemaking partnership. After a visit to The Vines of Mendoza by Paul Leary, a Private Vineyard Estate Owner (PVE) and principal at Blackbird Vineyards in Napa Valley, Recuerdo Wines was born.

Recuerdo Wines offers enthusiasts the opportunity to experience exceptional premium wines that capture the best of Argentina's unique terroir, specifically within the high-altitude Uco Valley. Recuerdo means "memory" or "memento" in Spanish. As such, the Recuerdo winemaking team of Santiago Achával and Pablo Martorell passionately believes that each bottle of Recuerdo should not only represent Argentina's native terroir but also serve as a memory of each and every harvest.

2012 Recuerdo Torrontés , La Rioja, Argentina
90 points, Wine Enthusiast
The emblematic white wine of  Argentina, the 2012 Recuerdo Torrontés is cultivated in the Argentine province of  La Rioja. The quality of  this region results in extremely aromatic varieties. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve its fruit intensity  and  lively  aromatics.  Bright,  fresh,  and  full  of   summer,  Torrontés  has  a  clean straw color with aromatic points of  lemon spritz, citrus, and tart white flowers. The mouth is filled with tropical fruit, fresh with mineral notes and clean essences. It is streamlined with fresh orange zest that rounds out with acidity and ripe pears that linger into a lush finish.

2013 Recuerdo Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina
90 points, Wine Advocate
Synonymous with the red wine of  Argentina, the 2013 Recuerdo Malbec is cultivated in the Uco Valley, which is situated on the eastern side of  the Andes Mountains in Mendoza.  A  deep  violet  color,  the  wine  opens  with  an  arresting  nose  of ripe blackberries and succulent  plum. The  palate  is  fresh  and  smooth,  showcasing  a  purity  of   fruit  with  refined  flavors  of   raspberry,  currant  and  savory  spice,  and  a  finish that is supple and persistent in length. This wine pairs well with a variety of  heavier fare and will offer a daily respite for lovers of  Cabernet Sauvignon and other full-bodied red wines.
