County Your Blessings

Napa and Sonoma unite to ask "Wine, can't we be friends?"

You all know the battle lines: glitzy, upscale, linen-tablecloth Napa vs. earthy, free-range, denim-vest Sonoma, the two greatest wine regions this side of the Atlantic locked in eternal rivalry. It works for both regions' tourist industries, and it makes for an easy hook for travel writers and lazy copywriters alike.

But here's a secret: they're actually on the same side. They need each other. They love each other. They're secret besties.

You can taste the closeness in the two bottles of the Reata Napa/Sonoma 2011 Pinot Noir, and the two bottles of the Napa-only version. The dual-county Pinot is a little earthier, a little more lush, a little softer than its single-county cousin. But they're both fruity, well-balanced examples of classic Pinot Noir virtues. Because flavor knows no county line.

Features

About Reata: Reata, the Spanish word for lariat, seems to capture the many threads of California history that run through our property. And just as  the strands of a reata are woven together by a master craftsman,  our wines artfully combine the different elements of the winemaker’s craft to capture the true essence of each varietal.

2011 Pinot Noir, Napa County - Sonoma County 750ml 2-Pack

This classic Pinot  Noir is intensely aromatic with notes of dark cherries, raspberries and spice. Flavors of bright berries are in harmony with earthy tones and  soft tannins to create a Pinot Noir that is lush and well-balanced.

Food Pairing: This wine drinks beautifully with meals, and is versatile enough to complement a wide range of menus. This easy-drinking red wine can  complement fish, pork, chicken or beef, especially when seasoned  with a touch of scented green herbs like rosemary and oregano. You can also enjoy this wine alongside pasta dishes like basil or pesto. It  also pairs well with softer cheeses like Brie and Camembert.

2011 Pinot Noir, Napa Valley 750ml 2-Pack

Delectable aromas of deep cherry, raspberry and strawberry combine with nuances of white pepper, sage and a hint of vanilla.  Intense berry flavors on the palate create a well-balanced, fruit-forward delight.

Growing Season: 2011 vintage started off with a relatively dry winter.  Early spring was wet and cold and it delayed the bud break.  The gloomy weather was persistent throughout the spring and cool temperature, rain, and even hail during the fruits-set negatively affected on vines and caused unevenness and low yield.  The summer was also cool and the verasion did not occur until August.  Our harvest began on 9/23, which was almost 4 weeks behind from a normal harvest, and seemed to proceed with a slow pace.  But it was the rain that changed the dynamics.  By the first week of October, when we experienced the first rain, our harvest activities were at a full speed to bring in all Pinot Noir and Chardonnay before the risk of botrytis and other molds increased.  Although it is very rare to see botrytis infects Bordeaux varietals, the damages were seen throughout the valley floor by the mid October.  2011 was by far a challenging vintage.  Nevertheless, an intensive, exhaustive care from vineyards to winemaking enabled us to produce stunning wines with remarkable delicacy.

Vineyard Details: The majority of grapes for this blend were sourced from Fotinos Vineyard in the Napa side of Carneros. The soils are Haire Clay Loam and the Pinot Noir from this vineyard tends to express sweet, bright flavor and fine tannins.
