4 - 2014 Raymond Vineyards Reserve Selection Chardonnay, Napa Valley

The cornerstone of the Raymond portfolio, the Reserve Selection Napa Valley Cabernet, Chardonnay, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc have held true to the family’s mantra of “deep roots, powerful wines” since the first vintage in 1974.

2014 Raymond Vineyards Reserve Selection Chardonnay, Napa Valley
Our 2014 Reserve Selection Chardonnay opens with luscious aromas of pear and apple with soft notes of honeysuckle and a touch of toasted oak. Well balanced and coating on the palate, flavors of melon, lemon and ripe pear culminate in a long, enjoyable finish.

In the Vineyard
The grapes for the Napa Valley Chardonnay come from our estate vineyards in Jameson Canyon and select Napa Valley growers. The estate vineyards are planted on rolling hills at the southern end of Napa Valley. The growing conditions in the Jameson Canyon are very similar to Carneros, the neighboring appellation just west of the Napa River. Winds flow through Jameson Canyon, carrying in the cooling influence of the nearby Pacific Ocean and providing a long, cool growing season that enhances the intensity of the Chardonnay flavors.

About the Vintage
The 2014 vintage in Napa Valley was one of the earliest harvested vintages in years. A warm spring led to early bud break and created the perfect environment for flowering and fruit set. With warm days and cool nights, our team was able to maintain ideal acid levels with optimum, bright fruit flavors.

Conversations with the Winemaker
Using no malolactic fermentation, moderate oak influence, and sur-lie aging, our Napa Valley Chardonnay is made in a style that focuses on the inherent qualities of this varietal. To preserve the unique Chardonnay aromas and flavors of grapes grown in this region, the wine was whole cluster pressed and cold fermented in stainless steel tanks. Post fermentation, the wine was fermented and aged sur lie (on the yeast lees) for 9 months, with periodic lees stirring, in 75% Nevers and Allier French oak barrels (20% new French oak) and 25% in stainless steel. The blending of barrel aged and stainless-steel aged juice lends greater complexity and roundness to the final wine while stirring the lees adds creaminess to the wine’s mid-palate.

Boisset Family

Jean-Charles Boisset was born into a winemaking family in Burgundy, France, just a few hundred meters from Burgundy's famed Clos Vougeot. Today, he is the proprietor, along with his sister, Nathalie, and parents Jean-Claude and Claudine Boisset, of a collection of more than twenty historical and unique wineries that boast leading positions in the world’s pre-eminent terroirs, including Raymond Vineyards (Napa Valley); DeLoach Vineyards (Russian River Valley), Lyeth Estate and Buena Vista Winery (both in Sonoma County); Domaine de la Vougeraie, Bouchard Aîné and Jean-Claude Boisset (in Burgundy), J. Moreau (Chablis), and Louis Bouillot, Burgundy’s first producer of sparkling wine, among others.

Jean-Charles Boisset was born into the world of wine in the village of Vougeot, Burgundy, France. His lifelong passion for wine began as a child, growing up above the cellars and within view of the centuries-old vineyards of Château du Clos Vougeot, the epicenter and birthplace of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. His parents, Jean-Claude and Claudine, founded the family winery in 1961 with an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit in one of the most traditional winegrowing regions in the world. Today, the family collection includes wineries that share more than 18 centuries of combined winemaking heritage and tradition in some of the world's most prestigious terroirs, from Burgundy to the South of France to California's Napa Valley and Russian River Valley.
