Features

Great wine is made in the vineyard, but “World Class” wine is created in the Cellar. We hand pick early morning and deliver to the winery before noon. The grapes are transferred to small open top bins for fermentation. After 2-3 days of cold soaking, fermentation begins. The cool fermentation moves as slow as possible to maximize color and complexities of the wine. The new wine is aged in French oak barrels for thirty months. After barrel age is complete, the wine is bottled and aged for additional three months before release.

Each bottle is wax dipped by hand, individually wrapped in tissue, and placed in six pack wooden box. The bottle is reminiscent of the infamous Chateau Haut Brion from Bordeaux. The Label includes the actual signature of Raffaele Garbarino, the Garbarino Family Crest, and the back label is Raffaele’s passport from Italy.

2008 Raffaele Garbarino, Cinque Terra Vineyard 750ml 2-Pack

Cinque Terre Vineyard is made up of 5 varietal blocks – “Five Lands” – (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Tannat). This exclusive estate vineyard is one of a kind located in the middle of the Lodi Region, best known for it’s massive production and it’s historical Zinfandel Vineyards. Amongst the 100,000 acres of the vineyards, lies the shining star – the Cinque Terre Vineyard. With it’s high density planting of 1800 vines per acre; it is a dramatic departure from the typical Lodi vineyard, consisting of less than 700 vines per acre. The vines are meticulously cared for to ensure very low yields thus delivering deeply intense flavored fruit only to be equaled by the finest vineyards of Bordeaux and Napa.

The new wine is then placed in French Oak barrels – where the wine will age for a minimum of 30 months. The combination of new and aged French Oak barrels gives the wine complexity and character. After the barrel aging is complete, the wine is then bottled and aged for an additional 12 – 14 months before release.

How can you make a “World Class” wine from a region that is known for high yields and production of good but commercial quality wines? How do you overcome a “Stigma” of a wine producing region known more for its quantity than quality? How do you convince the wine trade and the world of wine drinkers that you CAN produce wines in “Lodi” that have absolutely no resemblance to “Lodi Wines”?

Answer: “You do it in the Vineyard!”

Specs

Preparation: The 2008 is a big wine that needs to open, like a great wine from Barolo, Bordeaux, or the Ribera del Douro, the wine needs air to release its wonderful complexities.

The Color: Deep garnet with some red brownish tinge. The wine looks thick, deep, and rich in the glass.

The Nose: So many characteristics will build in the glass, including: fresh earth, cigar tobacco, cedar, leather, slight tones of eucalyptus, coffee, and cocoa. Like great wines of Europe, it is the non fruit characters that define the depth and structure of this wine.

On the Palate: With each drink, you will discover new layers of flavors and characteristics, including: a soft velvety feel on the palate, with many of the characters so present on the nose coming through on the taste profile. Some dried fruit, dried mushroom, and slight toasted oak. The tannins are very present, round, but firm. The finish is long and relatively dry. Throughout the bottle you will discover more and more layers of complexities that make this a world class wine.
