The Nose Knows

Why should your palate and liver have all the fun? Your nose deserves a little something fancy once in a while, too.

Your nose has to put up with a lot throughout the course of your day: the smell of exhaust during your daily commute, the intoxicating aroma of your boss’s morning breath, the acrid scent of someone burning popcorn in the break room AGAIN. Worse yet, there’s no way to shut it off. You can’t just close it like you can your eyes. It can’t just lie lazily in your mouth like your tongues does. I suppose you could shove earbuds into your nostrils like you can with your ears but, well, ew.

When you think about it, the very least you could do for your poor old proboscis is to pamper it a little with this Radog 2007 Aromatic White 4 Pack. The bouquet of white rose and orange blossom combined with strong candied citrus notes from the 2007 Radog Riesling will make you forget all about the lack of deodorant on the man who sat next to you on the bus. In a way, the sweet, smooth, almost honeycomb taste is merely a bonus. And while you’ll no doubt enjoy the fruity goodness of the 2007 Radog Dry Gewürztraminer, your nose will be particularly thankful for the spicy and floral aromas after an “emergency” visit to the local gas station bathroom.

It’s time to do right by your sniffer and give it a treat of its very own. No, your scented candles and potpourri don’t count. Neither do your body lotion or bath salts. Yeah, okay, flowers are nice but… LOOK, I’M TRYING TO SELL WINE HERE, OKAY?

Features

2007 Radog Riesling, Santa Lucia Highlands

  • Vintage: 2007
  • Varietal: Riesling
  • Appellation: Santa Lucia Highlands
  • Sugar: 2.20%
  • Acid: 8 Grams/L
  • Fermentation: Stainless Steel
  • Bottling Date: March 20, 2008
  • Alcohol: 12.5%
Dominant aromatics are floral with white rose and orange blossom taking the lead - reminiscent of Gewürztraminer if there was just a bit more of a spice note - and then a strong candied citrus note emerges. On the palate, the wine is very sexy with the residual sugar balancing the active crispness. The mid-palate is particularly fetching - sweet and smooth with an almost honeycomb taste.

2007 Radog Dry Gewürztraminer, Monterey

  • Vintage:  2007
  • Varietal: Gewürztraminer
  • Appellation: Monterey
  • Sugar: 1.20%
  • Fermentation: Stainless Steel Barrels
  • Alcohol: 12.8%
Made from 36 year-old vines growing in gravelly soil, the vineyard is very cool and windy in this Monterey AVA site. Free-run juice with no skin contact eliminates any bitterness on the finish. The wine is fermented in stainless steel. Made in a classic Alsatian style, there are grapefruit and honeysuckle characteristics.

Classic Gewürztraminer - floral aromas, stone fruits, and a spiciness that lingers in memory as a mix between wet stone and ginger. This wine is almost dry with enough fruity goodness to qualify as plain yummy with the foods of the season. Though ham is the classic pairing, avoid triteness by pairing this wine with most any Asian food or light dish featuring sweet-and-savory seasonings or sauces.

In an increasingly mechanized world, there are still a few handcrafted products that stand out. Fine wine is one of them.

At Tudor Wines, we select fruit from family-owned vineyards and transform it into wine using traditional techniques. These include small fermentations mixed by hand and aging in French barrels. The resulting wine has a purity of expression that cannot be duplicated on a larger scale.

The 2000 Tudor Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir was the inaugural release from Tudor Wines. By working closely with our family growers and winemaking staff, we made sure that low yields combined with maximum grape maturity produced wine with optimal flavor profiles – a balance of ripeness, acidity, and tannins.
