2005 Corley Proprietary Red Wine 750ml
This wine's opening stanza is a medley of blueberry, blackberry, floral and sweet oak tones. The chorus is lovely, the tannins laying down a solid rhythmic bass line, while the berry aromatics and dark fruit flavors entertain with an “echo” jam evoking some of the old-school boogie-woogie piano jams of old. The finish is sweet, lingering and smoky – like the last song of the evening in a downtown jazz club.

2006 Corley Proprietary Red Wine 750ml
The dark fruit and berry aromas mix beautifully with the vanilla and mocha oak. There is also a nice smokiness from the toasted oak in the background. It is a very inviting aroma. On the palate, the wine has a firm but appealing entry. The tannins are medium in intensity and frame the rich texture beautifully. The wine is full of dark fruit and dark chocolate flavor. With an hour or so in the glass, this wine opens up to even more layers of fruit in both the nose and on the palate. The finish lasts a nice long time. For those who enjoy their previous vintages of CORLEY Proprietary Red Wine, you may be particularly enamored with this wine. It will drink well now through 2019. In its youth, and likely beyond, this richly textured wine will reward the patient decanter.

With the exception of the co-fermented lots, which served as the foundation for the blend, all of the lots were fermented and sent to barrel individually. As is Chris Corley's tendency with this wine each year, the blend was put together in stages over the course of the barrel-aging process. Incremental blending can be thought of as putting together a piece of music. Typically you start with a base melody or rhythm, upon which the rest of the song is based. That’s your catchy riff - and to that you layer the rest of your jam down.

CORLEY Proprietary Red Wine is such a fun wine to blend. There are so many flavors, aromas and textures that we are working with when putting this wine together. From the Cabernet Franc, find spicy flavors and aromas and a contribution of moderately firm tannins. The Merlot has a ripe berry flavor and a plush texture that fills in the gaps in the Cabernet Franc like mortar and bricks. The Cabernet Sauvignon contributes big ripe fruit and ripe rich tannins to balance out and moderate the previous two wines. The Syrah contributes a very appealing dark spicy characteristic and long finish to the wine.
