Features

2012 Pink Zeppelin, Dry Pink Wine, Paso Robles 750ml 3-Pack

In contrast with the ethereal, flowery, wimpy Grenache dominated dry Rhonish Roses* currently in fashion amongst the 63,351 wine writers of America, this wine is darker, fruit-driven, and considerably more flavorful and extracted without being overripe; to call it a Pink Chardonnay would be suggestive if not absurdly provocative.  Syrah is of course a more powerful grape, and this Mourvedre was unusually intense at a pink level of ripeness. The wine smells like Syrah and Mourvedre (to wine writers, very fresh raspberry and plum) while the palate has deep rich texture and mouthfeel, the aforementioned fruits, and a long balanced finish.  It is cold stable, but please don’t overchill!

*Yes, the 2011 Pink Zeppelin was Grenache dominated.  It’s not in this vintage because they grafted one of the blocks over to Vermentino and Alicante Bouschet.   Trust 'em on this, eh?

Zeppelin Winery is a very small producer of super premium wines, based on the Central Coast of California. Founded in 2009 by winemaker Stillman Brown of Red Zeppelin Winery and wine veteran Dan Lewis (he's the office guy) they produce tiny lots of Syrah and other misunderstood varietals, with almost invariably insane labels.  Most can only be purchased directly, but once in a while they emerge into the light of day.
