2012 Periodic Pinot Noir, Central Coast 750ml 6-Pack

Our 2012 Periodic Pinot Noir has a beautiful brick red color, and its naturally sweet and savory bouquet is immediately enticing. A classically fruit-forward Central Coast Pinot Noir that opens with complex aromas of pomegranate, cherry-cola and notes of rosewater. Twelve months of aging in 100% French Oak frames the deep caramel and vanilla characters of the wine. Fresh cranberry, tangerine and clove intermingle on the palate and create a delightful play on bright fruit flavors and darker, deeper earthiness. A touch of Grenache from the Paso Robles region adds a hint of spiciness and complexity to this medium plus bodied wine. This Pinot Noir has rich aromas and nuances that will continue to open and unfold as you sip, taking care to engage the nose and palate during the long finish.

Due to its versatility, a bevy of dishes will pair nicely with this wine; try pairing with an arugula salad with figs and goat cheese, a roasted pork loin with a fruit glaze or even a simple Margherita pizza.

Appellation: The majority of the grapes used to make this wine were sourced from the San Bernabe vineyard in the larger Monterey AVA. The Monterey AVA is located in the Central Valley of California, officially the largest AVA in the state, from the north of Monterey Bay to the southern border of Paso Robles. Encompassing such a massive area, it is noted to have a diverse climate and unique soil compositions for the great variety of grapes grown here. San Bernabe is located between the Salinas River on the east and the Santa Lucia Mountains on the west. While notably warmer than the areas in the north, San Bernabe AVA is tempered by the afternoon breezes coming from the Pacific Ocean. The weather patterns here are able to produce excellent quality grapes which leaves us with the task of picking them at the perfect ripeness to create a beautifully balanced Pinot Noir.

Vintage: Having weathered two excessively cool and wet vintages in 2010 and 2011, which reduced yields and made it difficult for grapes to fully ripen, San Bernabe vineyard winemakers had much to rejoice about in 2012. Across the vast AVA of Monterey, most wine regions enjoyed near idyllic conditions throughout the growing season resulting in a bountiful crop of picture perfect grapes across all varietals. A perfect spring bud break, followed by steady flowering, an even fruit set, and just the right amount of warm sunny days and cool foggy nights, ensured that grapes enjoyed the extended hang time needed to fully develop. The fruit that emerged was ideally balanced, dark, richly structured and age worthy, with great color saturation and sweet tannins.
