2003 McClean Estate Private Reserve Syrah, Paso Robles 750ml

This 2003 Syrah is for those of you who love a big bold Syrah. Blockbuster boysenberry and white pepper dominate the nose of this dark purple Syrah. Black cherry and deep spice flavors linger on the palate from beginning to end of each sip. Evenly structured Syrah with a long, elegant finish.

2005 McClean Estate Private Reserve Syrah, Paso Robles 750ml

McClean Vineyards' 2005 Syrah sips well with any type of menu. Rich aromas of blackberry, raspberry and gentle oak overtones. Generous currants and purple plum fruits yield nicely. On the palate it is delicate and smooth with crisp, lingering finish. It pairs well with all types of occasions from backyard barbecues to the elegant dining experiences.

2007 McClean Estate Private Reserve Syrah, Paso Robles 750ml

This wine is full-bodied but really managed to maintain an elegant mouthfeel. It will certainly compete with just about any Syrah of the same age, regardless of place. The wine has defined red fruit on the palate, but it's much more lush and less oxidative than with the '06. Rather than sour red cherry, you get tons of ripe, fresh red cherry, as well as a hint of strawberry on the nose and palate. This is a wine that will work with food, but will be much more appealing to those who want to drink wine without the presence of food.

2011 McClean Vineyards Viognier, Paso Robles 750ml

Viognier doesn't have the reputation of being a "global traveler" like Chardonnay, but has proven to produce some outstanding wines in the right place. It just so happens that California's Central Coast is an area where Viognier has developed quite a stellar reputation.  2011 is an inaugural vintage for McClean's varietal Viognier, and they are ecstatic to bring it to market.  The wine strikes a wonderful balance between the distinctly different styles for which Viognier has come to be known. It is full-bodied, delivering flavors luscious green and stone fruits, as well as a marked floral character.  These aromas translate onto the palate, but are tempered by a mouthwatering acidity that will make the wine a perfect match for a wide array of foods.

When Michael McClean made the decision to blend Viognier with the 2006 vintage Syrah, it was in an effort to make the best product possible.  While single varietal Syrah has been their trademark for quite some time, it was discovered that the 2006 Syrah juice needed... something. Following the blending techniques of vintners in Côte-Rôtie and Australia, Michael decided that Viognier could act as the perfect complement to his Syrah. While it turned out that the blending of Viognier contributed significantly in the production of their 2006 Royale, Michael also had the idea that it may work on its own... and he was right.
