A vibrant layering of flavors resulted from blending fruit from classic and emerging appellations. With the diversity of flavors, a well-rounded mouthful of wine was created. This wine features naturally softened tannins and enhanced varietal complexity. Blending in the Cabernet Sauvignon added interesting nuances to the lush berry flavor profile of the Merlot. Oberon Merlot is crafted to enjoy around the fire or paired with a variety of meals, including: classic hamburgers from the grill, steak or chicken shish kebobs, marinated pork chops, grilled or pan seared salmon, pasta with hearty meat or vegetarian sauces, polenta and sautéed seasonable vegetables, pizza from the grill or from the oven.

This wine has rich cherry, dark berry and cassis flavors, with subtle nuances of toasted vanilla and toffee and a beautifully rounded mouthfeel with layers of rich, complex flavors. Deep, rich black and red berry flavors with firm tannins. Oberon Cabernet Sauvignon pairs well with grilled steak seasoned simply with salt & pepper, flat iron steak served with crumbled gorgonzola, barbequed baby back ribs, and robust, hard cheeses.

Winemaker, Tony Coltrin accomplished a vibrant layering of flavors in this Oberon Merlot by sourcing grapes throughout the Napa Valley. Blending fruit from classic and emerging appellations allowed Oberton to take advantage of different soil types and microclimates from around the valley. With the diversity of flavors, he created a well-rounded mouthful of wine. To naturally soften tannins and enhance varietal complexity, they gave the wine 28 days of skin contact. The wine was pressed and transferred it to French oak barrels to undergo a long malolactic fermentation for roundness and depth. Blending in the Cabernet Sauvignon added interesting nuances to the lush berry flavor profile of the Merlot.
2008 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml 2-Pack
To create Oberon Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Tony Coltrin sourced grapes from throughout Napa Valley’s finest winegrowing regions, including Rutherford, Atlas Peak, Wooden Valley, and their own Oso Vineyard at the northeastern end of Napa Valley. By blending fruit from Napa’s volcanic hillside soils and the deeper alluvial soils of the valley floor, Tony accomplished his goal of crafting an outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon that boasts a beautifully rounded mouthfeel and layers of rich, complex flavors. After the grapes were gently hand-harvested, de stemmed and crushed, the juice fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with an extended post-fermentation maceration that beautifully married flavors and tannins, giving Oberon Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon its lovely, seamless texture. Malolactic fermentation in barrel, combined with 18 months aging in French oak barrels, further concentrated the wine’s rich cherry, dark berry and cassis flavors, adding subtle nuances of toasted vanilla and toffee.

Our winemaker, Napa Valley native Tony Coltrin, brings more than 35 years of Napa Valley winemaking experience to Oberon, with expertise in sourcing quality fruit from the best vineyards in the valley and understanding the region's uniqueness for growing classic Bordeaux varieties. His long-standing relationships with local growers ensure a consistency in the quality of the grapes grown for Oberon in premiere and emerging Napa Valley sub-appellations. From these vineyards are harvested the perfectly mature clusters that lend the ripest possible fruit character to our wines. With experience and patience, Tony awaits the moment each year that he can taste the peak of ripeness in the grapes - the point at which nature recognizes the same and the birds begin to pluck the berries from the vines. This results in the luscious concentration of our wines.
