Features

2003 Muir-Hanna Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, Particelli Vineyards 750ml 2-Pack

The Cabernet Sauvignon fruit comes from the Particelli Vineyard in St. Helena, vertically trained cordons on six foot by eight foot spacing, oriented north-south, and planted on 101-14 rootstock.  Two clones, 337 and 6, were used for the wine.

The must was inoculated with D254 yeast on the day of harvest and split between a small tank and 3 macro bins.  The juice was pumped over and the macros punched down twice daily.  It was pressed on Nov 3 when all measurable sugar was used, and racked.  The  malo-lactic culture was added Nov 6 and the conversion was complete by Dec 18.  It was racked to barrels on Jan 14, 2004.

The wine was aged for twenty six months in French oak barrels, 20% of which were new.  It was topped once per month for four months then the barrels were rolled on their side and topped once every three months.  The wine was racked and returned to barrels twice during aging.  A final racking preceded filtration. The wine was bottled on 3 March, 2006.

Vendor Details

Muir-Hanna Vineyards

Owners:
Direct descendants of John Muir
Location:
Napa, CA
Muir-Hanna Vineyards is a vineyard and winery in California’s famed Napa Valley, owned and operated by the direct descendants of John Muir, one of America’s most famous naturalists and conservationists. John Muir and his in-laws, the Strentzels, were also grape growers. True to our legacy, we practice sustainable agriculture in every phase of our operation and celebrate with every vintage the respect and connection that John Muir had with the glories of nature.

Our vineyards consist of 40 acres in the Oak Knoll District of the Napa Valley and produce chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir, merlot, and a small amount of cabernet franc and petit verdot. We farm an additional 70 acres for neighbors and family, which adds semillon and sauvignon blanc. Our grapes have been prized components for such celebrated wineries as Beringer, Bernardus, Chateau Montelena, Darioush, Grgich Hills, Merryvale, Robert Mondavi, Opus One, and Silverado Vineyards. On the 150th anniversary of the planting of the Strenzel family’s first grapes, Muir-Hanna Vineyards offered its first release to the general public. Our grapes are grown with a minimum of chemical use, and our goal is harmonious co-existence with our ecosystem by enhancing our existing practices of sustainable agriculture and responsible conservation of resources.

A glass of Muir-Hanna wine is a taste of five generations of commitment to the beauty of the world around us.
