McClean Vineyards Royale 750ml Case
Syrah and Viognier have long complemented each other (the varietals are often co-fermented in the Côte-Rôtie region in the Northern Rhone area of France). The 'Royale blend' from McClean Vineyards in Paso Robles continues this harmonious relationship. The wine's Syrah character is tempered by a gracious amount of Viognier, which gives it a truly elegant mouthfeel. Raspberry and strawberry jam aromas are complemented by hints of chocolate nougat and black pepper. Impeccably balanced tannins leave a soft, lingering smoothness in the finish. The wine is full, textured, and features wonderfully integrated oak with an abundance of soft, sweet tannins.
Michael McClean has been saving this Royale for a very special occasion. It has never been released to the general public before. And what better occasion than to celebrate the election of 2012 ... and letting the Woot family be the first to enjoy this release exclusively!

This all came about when winemaker, Michael McClean, was speaking to his aunt who lives in Sydney, Australia. She loved his Syrah, but told him that down under they had started to blend Syrah with Viognier, and he thought to himself, "how peculiarly interesting." So trying to give his customers something different and unique, he has combined their 2006 Estate Syrah with their Paso Robles 2011 Viognier. And viola! Magic occurred.

Besides being an excellent winemaker, Michael is one of Vietnam's most decorated war heroes. A California Vietnam veteran, Michael has a profound appreciation for the returning veteran's challenges from today's conflicts in the Middle East. Not only was Michael a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross he also received a Silver Star and Purple Heart.
To help these returning veterans he has decided to donate 10% of all proceeds from wine purchases to help the rehabilitation of our returning soldiers through the Armed Forces Foundation.
