Durif I were a rich man...

"Mommy?"

"Yes, little Durif?"

"Where did I come from?"

"Well, Durif, when a Frenchman loves a Peloursin vine very much, he starts feeling a little experimental and unwittingly takes it upon himself to merge the Peloursin with other grapes.

... Then, about one hundred years later, Peloursin will make an appearance on an American daytime TV talk show and get in a shouting match with throngs of unemployed urchins about your real pollen source: Your REAL daddy.

... But some nice scientists - who, by the way, had cunningly convinced a pretty prestigious university to dedicate loads of funding to wine studies - these very smart scientists will conduct a genuine DNA paternity analysis to determine who your daddy actually is."

"My real daddy? Who is it, mama? Who is it?!"

"It's Syrah, my sweet petite Durif! It's Syrah!"

"Oh! This is the happiest day of my life!"

"It's probably also a pretty happy day for the person who shall tell our tale to an e-commerce site, little Durif, because by sheer coincidence, her relative is a professor at that prestigious university and works in that aforementioned department of clever scientists, so she can give a shoutout to her uncle David at UC Davis."

Features

2005 Petite Sirah, Napa Valley 750ml

Big, bold and exuberant describe the personality of this Petite Sirah.  Succulent black fruits abound, and this grape’s naturally big tannins show a plusher, ripe edge. An appealing mélange of blackberry and plum expands into a very full finish. Black cherry, espresso, a dusting of black pepper, dark chocolate, more fruit… it keeps building. The grapes were grown by Jess Madrigal and Bobby Barberis, whose families have passed along their vineyard wisdom for over 100 years.  Madrigal’s original cult wine.

2007 Petite Sirah, Napa Valley 750ml

The winery’s history began with this bold red wine that is even more popular today.  Inky wine bursting with fruit and spice. Appealing scents of blueberry and dried rose petals mingle with hints of cinnamon and smoky cedar. The full-bodied palate delivers a dynamic mix of blackberry jam and warm plums, capped by dusty cocoa, espresso and even a whisper of white pepper. Can’t finish the bottle in one sitting? Stash it overnight and it’ll show even more intriguing layers!

Madrigal Family Winery

Owner:
The Madrigal Family
Location:
Napa Valley, CA

Since the late 1930's, three generations of the Madrigal family have farmed some of Napa Valley’s finest vineyards. The family history is a constant source of inspiration, and guides us in our wine making now. We value the long relationship we've had with the land and the people here, believing that the combined wisdom of the folks who’ve been here for generations and a deep appreciation of these vineyards can be tasted in our wine.

Today, the company is run by Chris Madrigal, the founder's grandson. Our winemaker is the acclaimed Ed Sbragia, who built his reputation over 30 years of winemaking in the Napa, Sonoma and Dry Creek Valleys. Ed’s wines have won awards for years and he’s proud of the reputation he’s earned. “I just do what I love and work with the gifts of the land,” said Ed. “All  with a passion and pride passed down through generations at home.”
