Lucas and Lewellen are excellent winemakers and not, as we initially thought, an interior decorating firm.

Here’s what three nontraditional wine authorities have to say about the wines we're offering today.

Phelps County Truck & Boat Trader, Sept. 23, 2012:
“FOR SALE: 2012 Lucas & Lewellen Chardonnay, low miles, good cond., runs good. Santa Barbara AVA. Hand-harvested, cold pressed. Ask about hand-punching. $2600 OBO.”

GrapeAura: The Journal of New Age Wine Studies, Feb. 2014:
“A beacon of spirit energy radiating throughout the universe and the innerverse, Lucas & Lewellen Goodchild embodies mind/body harmony in its acidic balance. Aromas of vanilla bean cavort in an elegant forest, twirling to the mad symphony of existence. More renewing than a crystal yoga colonic.”

Alcohol is Murder!: The Official Newsletter of the Ladies’ Temperance Anti-Pleasure League, Spring 1840:
“Perhaps most insidious is the poison known as Lucas & Lewellen Chardonnay. Where common ordinary rotgut warns away the timid with noxiously toxic odors and flavors, this liquid seductress hides its peril behind the enticing aroma. Stout indeed must be the soul who hopes to resist its charms.”

Features

2012 Chardonnay, Santa Barbara County 750ml 3-Pack

The hand-harvested grapes for this Chardonnay, farmed using sustainable practices in our Los Alamos Vineyard, were cold-pressed and fermented to capture their pure fresh flavors and aromas.

Lucas & Lewellen Vineyards is owned and operated by the two namesake families who produce the estate grown fruit for this bright, stainless steel fermented Chardonnay. This wine has distinct pear, peach and stone fruit complexity with a hint of lemony‐citrus. It is a pure expression of the fruit grown on vines from the Los Alamos Vineyards in Northern Santa Barbara County.

Vineyard Notes: The Los Alamos Vineyard is a cool climate vineyard in the Santa Barbara County AVA. Stretching for over a mile of Highway 101 frontage just south of the town of Los Alamos, these vineyards are home to 20 varieties of grapes, representing the principal varieties of the Rhone, Burgundy and Bordeaux regions of France, as well as Italian varieties. With some of the vines planted from cuttings brought from Europe over 35 years go, these vineyards have long been a favorite source for any of California's best wineries.

2012 Chardonnay, Goodchild Vineyard 750ml 3-Pack

The Goodchild Vineyard is located in a cool climate region of Santa Barbara County famed for its premium quality Chardonnay. Hand harvested at the peak of their flavor, the grapes were whole cluster pressed and fermented in 30% new French oak barrels, which were toasted to precise specification. The elegant wine is rich with aromas of vanilla bean, peach and pineapple fruit, and toasted almonds. The wine underwent secondary fermentation which softens the palate and leads to aromas of sweet butter, cream, and pie crust. The fruit itself is laden with citrus aromas and classic Chardonnay characteristics.
