This wine will put hair on your chest. Just as long as the hair follicles have matured enough to even grow there, that is.

"I would like one bottle of the Kent Rasmussen Petite Sirah, please."

Sure, no problem. Can I just see your ID?

"Uh, my ID?"

Yeah. If you want to buy this wine with perfect fruit and perfect structure, you're going to have to show me some ID.

"Oh. Ok. Here ya go".

Mbadinuju Onyekachukwu?

"Hmm? What?"

Your name is Mbadinuju Onyekachukwu?

"Yep. That's me."

I'm sorry, kid. But you're maybe a buck five soaking wet and your face is smoother than a baby's behind. You expect me to believe you're a 42-year-old man named Mbadinuju Onyekachukwu.

"Sure. Why not?"

In Waverly, Ohio?

"Well that's a bit racist, don't you think?"

Okay, fine. What year were you born?

"1970."

What's your address?

"101 West Main Street."

Great. Now spell your last name.

"Uh. What?"

What's wrong? Don't know how to spell your own last name?

"Psssh. Of course I do. Uh … OK. It's O-N … O-M-A … T-O-P-I-A."

You just spelled onomatopoeia. Incorrectly. Nice try, kid. Come back when you have a little 5 o'clock shadow.

Features

2009 Kent Rasmussen Petite Sirah 750ml 3-Pack

This wine is a winner.  It is immense, it will take no hostages, it will sooth, it will please, and in the end you will be pouring out your other wines because they just don’t satisfy you anymore…you will never want to drink anything but (this) Petite Sirah again.  While Petite Sirah started out in France as a minor variety of the Rhone, it is no longer grown there and is only grown to a tiny extent, under the name “Durif,” anywhere else in the world.  One could say that Petite Sirah, at this point, is THE grape of California.  Every winemaker that Kent knows thinks of it as their favorite grape.  What makes “pets” so good?  Hard to say, it just is perfect—perfect fruit, perfect weight, and perfect structure, wonderful to drink young, even better to drink old.

Winery Details

Kent Rasmussen Winery

Founded:
1986
Owner:
Kent Rasmussen
Location:
St. Helena, CA

Since its modest beginnings, the Kent Rasmussen Winery has evolved into one of the most important producers in the Napa region. The winery outgrew its tractor shed barrel room on Cuttings Wharf Road in the Napa Carneros long ago. In 1995, Kent and Celia established a new winemaking facility in a turn of the century slaughterhouse, on the Silverado Trail in St. Helena. Refined over the years, it now houses business offices, an oenology lab and lab tasting room, a wine library and upgraded production equipment. The modern crusher, press, tanks, catwalks, refrigeration systems, pumps, forklift and fruit sorter have greatly enhanced winemaking options. Grapes are either estate grown or under long term contract with reliable growers.

Top Comments are discussion forum posts we have deemed worthy of your time. Listen, we get a lot of comments, and most of the time, it's pretty forgettable stuff; but sometimes you rise to the top like butterfat in milk. We don't recommend you base your self-worth on how often we feature your comments, but we don't expressly forbid it either.
