Our 2009 Esoterica Pinot Noir is a carefully crafted blend from grapes originating in two of California’s most favored Pinot Noir regions: the Carneros of southern Napa Valley, and Mendocino County, where sunny, warm days are invariably followed by surprisingly cool nights. The near-perfect weather is ideal for this delicate variety, as the cool nighttime temperatures help to retain the grape’s natural acids and preserve the graceful aromas and flavors for which the often-difficult Pinot Noir is so renowned.
Initial aromas of cherry and raspberry evolve to include subtle notes of toast and leather in this immediately appealing wine. The red fruit aromas are reinforced on the palate where dried cherry flavors, supported by just a hint of varietal earthiness, are carried nimbly forward by the silky-smooth tannins and pinpoint acidity.

Since its modest beginnings, the Kent Rasmussen Winery has evolved into one of the most important producers in the Napa region. The winery outgrew its tractor shed barrel room on Cuttings Wharf Road in the Napa Carneros long ago. In 1995, Kent and Celia established a new winemaking facility in a turn of the century slaughterhouse, on the Silverado Trail in St. Helena. Refined over the years, it now houses business offices, an oenology lab and lab tasting room, a wine library and upgraded production equipment. The modern crusher, press, tanks, catwalks, refrigeration systems, pumps, forklift and fruit sorter have greatly enhanced winemaking options. Grapes are either estate grown or under long term contract with reliable growers.
