puddle of judd

Apatow. Ashley. Wynonna. Nelson. This wine blows all other Judds out of the water.

Before you purchase this Judd's Hill Central Coast Pinot Noir 4-Pack, just know that each bottle will take your palate on a mad-cap journey of bromance, broad humor, and refusal to grow up even in the face of overwhelming responsibility and pressure to become slightly mature.

Aromas of cola, earthy loam, and mushrooms will rumble across your nose like a gruff Seth Rogen soliloquy punctuated by his trademark stoner laugh. The berry flavors will stipple your tongue not unlike the gratuitous profanity peppered in every scene of the bro genre. The restrained and balanced tannins will be just like, uh, Danny McBride saying a bunch of really crude stuff.

Okay this analogy hasn't worked at all. The wine is awesome. The films are terrible. We should've done a Wynonna metaphor after all.

Features

2009 Judd's Hill Pinot Noir, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands 750ml 4-Pack

Year after year, we’ve been excited to offer such a well-crafted, balanced and nuanced Pinot Noir at an “everyday wine” price. The nose opens with aromas of cola, and hints of earthy loam and mushroom. The first sip shifts the experience from earth to fruit with tart red cherry, strawberry and raspberry flavors. Throughout, the wine is restrained and balanced with subtle tannins and bright acidity framing in the fruit. It is a new world Pinot to be sure, but there is big wink to the old world in its carriage.

Vineyard: With a history of Vitus vinifera grape plantings dating back to the 1790’s, California’s Santa Lucia Highlands region has been recognized as a superb area for viticulture for quite some time. Since receiving AVA status in 1991, this region, which sits on the southeast facing foothills of the Santa Lucia Mountains in Monterey County, has become one of the most respected appellations in California. The fog of the bay, coupled with high winds, creates a cool and very long growing season perfect for Pinot Noir.

Vintage: The 2009 Santa Lucia Highlands growing season started with a dry winter for the third year in a row. Cool summer and fall temperatures kept sugar levels low while allowing phenolic maturity to develop. The result is wonderfully balanced fruit with high acid levels and nice tannic structure. This is the kind of vintage that Pinot Noir growers dream about: slow, dry and steady with no serious heat spikes near harvest time. Crop yields were a little lower than normal, but the quality of the fruit was high across the board.

Food Pairing: This is an exquisitely balanced Pinot Noir that can be enjoyed with a wide variety of lighter dishes. The Finkelstein Family
Founded:
2006
Location:
Napa, CA

Judd's Hill is owned and operated by two generations of the Finkelstein family.  Bunnie, Judd and Holly Finkelstein are vintners dedicated to producing ultra-premium, handcrafted wines.  Our family has been making wine in Napa Valley since the 1970's and continues to produce signature wines that are fruit-driven, concentrated and just simply delicious.  Taking an intimate and personal approach to our winemaking, we limit our annual production to less than 3,000 cases.
In 2006 construction was completed on our new winery located at the southern end of the Silverado Trail.  We designed it to be as green as possible, minimizing our impact on the land.   The use of environmentally efficient drainage, solar lighting and an aggressive recycling and composting program are a few ways that our winery uses smart design to make a difference.  As a result, Judd's Hill has been certified as one of the first Napa Valley Green Wineries by the Napa Valley Vintners.

Our new facility is considerably larger than our original Howell Mountain winery and gives us more room to serve our Custom MicroCrush clients.  It also houses our new tasting room that is tucked amidst the beautiful vines of Napa Valley and welcomes visitors daily by advance appointment.
