Mom Deserves The Best

Hmmm… “World’s Greatest Mom” mug, or Iron Horse Sparkling wine? Ugh! Decisions!

I mean on the one hand, I could get her this cheap, mass-produced mug that, by its very nature, cannot possibly be sincere – after all, how can there be more than one “greatest mom” in the world, right?

Or I could buy her this two pack of delicious Iron Horse Sparkling Wine, featuring one bottle of 2007 Classic Vintage Brut – with a nose of hazel nut, grapefruit and Key lime, followed by flavors of ripe red apple, yeast, and a touch of mandarin orange– and one bottle of the 2007 Wedding Cuvee – rich and creamy, like pure strawberries and cream. And what’s this? It’s guaranteed to be delivered by Mother’s day? Interesting…

Still, I already know mom would love a “World’s Greatest Mom” mug. After all, she liked the one I got her last year. And the year before that. And those other six too.

Jeez, decisions like this are so tough!

Classic Vintage Brut is a food lover that shines in the presence of all things spicy, salty or fried. Its classic partner would be a perfectly roasted chicken infused with flavors of fresh thyme and Meyer lemon. Eggs Benedict, lobster mac and cheese or French fries with truffle salt pair beautifully, while spicy tuna tartar makes for a sublime hors d'oeuvre.

By nose: Grapefruit, Key lime and hazelnut.
By mouth: mandarin orange, ripe red apple, autolyzed yeast with a long finish.

This is Iron Horse's Blanc de Noirs, made from predominantly Pinot Noir. It has a beautiful rosé color. Rich and creamy, like pure strawberries and cream, this is without doubt the most romantic of their Sparklings. It is dangerously easy to drink. A favorite for many, Iron Horse is probably best known for this cuvée.

Marries perfectly with frisée salad with diced bacon and a Pinot Noir vinaigrette, Chinese chicken salad, scrambled eggs and caviar, rock shrimp and potato frittata, mushroom dishes such as a grilled Portobello sandwich or wild mushroom risotto, poached salmon - hot or cold, and best of all, chocolate dipped strawberries.

By nose: Strawberry, minerality and ripe red apple.
By mouth:  Apricot, cherry, strawberry and cardamom, cinnamon with lime at the finish.
