Bottled Up Inspiration
"Look at this one. Isn't it such a marvelous piece?"
Mmm, yes. Quite exquisite. The brushstrokes, the attention to detail. Majestic, really.
"And the smooth fullness of the reds. The color scheme is superb."
On first appearance it seems simple, but the artist's use of multiple reds gives the work a sense of unity without lacking individuality.
"How about these blackberries? What do you imagine they symbolize?"
Excellent question, Eunice. On this side, the blackberries are richly portrayed, but on the other side they are in smaller notes, nestled in the throngs of cedar with a hint of chocolate, and is that, hmmm, I say is that black pepper sprinkled on top? It appears it is! How fascinating.
"The change of pace between the two is expected, but also somehow unexpected."
The whole piece is splendid. I wonder what the artist used for inspiration.
"Hmm, I wonder."
Features
2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, Dry Creek Valley 750ml
Full bodied with soft, non-astringent tannins, rich with flavors of cassis and blackberry. As the wine opens up, it becomes richer in the glass, making this the kind of wine that you can sip & ponder for hours. What Inspiration enjoys most about their cabs, is that in their young age, you can enjoy them right away, or lay them down for several years because the fruit foundation of the wine lasts and allows for very nice aging.
Jon Phillips has been friends with grape grower Brian Gallaway, almost as long as he lived in Sonoma County. Brian’s ranch is located just outside the town of Healdsburg on West Dry Creek Road; the grapes are grown on an eastern facing hillside vineyard along the western slope of the Dry Creek Valley, producing a distinctive wine rich with warm berry flavors.
2010 Syrah, Dry Creek Valley 750ml
Full bodied, balanced with great acidity, you find this wine will age nicely over the next 6 to 8 years. If serving during this first year after release, decanting is recommended in order to get some air into the wine to allow it to open up. The nose is tight with notes of blackberry and chocolate. On the palate you’ll find black pepper, blackberries, cedar, and mocha.
Syrah has always been a special wine for Inspiration Vineyards because it represents the Rhône Valley, a place in France they are very fond of. Made in the tradition of a Côte Rôtie, the addition of Viognier brings out wonderful color and aromas in this wine. However, unlike its Rhône counterpart, long and warm growing seasons contribute to riper fruit that creates a wine with higher alcohol. Don’t be alarmed by the label however, after going to print, Inspiration Vineyards retested the wine and the final blend dropped .5%.
2011 Inspiration Zinfandel, Dry Creek Valley 750ml
The 2011 vintage of the Dry Creek Valley Inspiration Zinfandel has aromas of Bing cherries, raspberries and a hint of cocoa More raspberries on the palate, with a nice layer baking spices and a touch of coffee. This wine is well-balanced and very food-friendly.
