Grenache Panache
What’s the most widely planted red grape in the world? The Grenache! And yet, everyone always forgets to say thank you. They focus on the rare plantings and the strange varietals, maybe just assuming the patient Grenache will always be there. Well, the world’s not taking you for granted, Grenache, not today. Just check out the official Grenache Day Blog to see if there’s a celebratory event near you. And even if there’s not, who cares? Because we’re gonna have a little party of our own! Today we’re having a little wine.woot-off… and it’s ALL ABOUT YOU, GRENACHE!
First up is this Holly’s Hill Vineyard Grenache 2+2 pack. The first two bottles are just plain’ ol 2009 El Dorado Petit Patriarche, blueberry, blackberry, some herbal thyme and the oregano. Add to that wet stone, rosemary, mushrooms, black pepper and a floral something in the nose. Yawn, right? Because what people will be chasing are the OTHER two bottles, the 2009 El Dorado Grenache Noir! The smell of earthy plums opening to strawberries, cherries, flowers and licorice (just a bit). And that first mouthful? The soft flow of fruit and silky tannins will help us all remember just why you, the Grenache, is so popular in the first place.
So get ready, you often neglected grape! Today’s YOUR special day, for YOU to enjoy! Get excited, Wine.woot fans! We’re celebrating GRENACHE DAY!

Nestled in the beautiful Sierra Foothills in El Dorado County and Pleasant Valley, Holly's Hill Winery specializes in producing Rhone varietal wines. In fact, the estate vineyards are composed entirely of Rhone varieties including Viognier, Roussanne, Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah, and Counoise. The winery produces both varietal wines, a dry Rosé, and red and white blends. The enthusiasm for Rhone varieties at Holly's Hill started when Tom and Holly Cooper (owners) shared their first bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape on their honeymoon. It's been a love affair ever since.
