Features
Aromas of black pepper, spice and mocha perfectly complement the bold fruit essences of raspberry apparent in this full flavored wine. Creamy oak flavors on the mid-palate lead to a long finish.
Vineyards: This traditional Zinfandel is made from fruit grown in the many blocks and fractured rock terraces of Los Chamizal Vineyards. It truly carries the flavors of the different budwood selections used in the individual block plantings.
Vintage: Vintage 2009 saw below average rainfall and the bud break occurred late in March. While there were a few heat spikes, the healthy canopies sheltered the crop, and the fruit was harvested beginning in late September. Due to the lower rainfall, the individual berry size was smaller resulting in a smaller crop, but the flavors were intense as a result of the increase in berry skin to juice ratio.

- 1980
- Location:
- Sonoma, CA
The hills beyond the historic town of Sonoma embrace a small valley called Chamizal where grape vines are planted on terraces carved from the rocky slopes. By 1980 Haywood Winery produced its first wines from grapes that could adapt to the rugged terrain. Today Haywood Estate Winery emphasizes single vineyard Zinfandels, its Italian relative Primitivo, as well as Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay, each wine demonstrating the unique site characteristics of their location within the vineyard. In addition to the current Estate portfolio, grape varieties farmed on the 90 producing acres of los Chamizal Vineyards include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Verdot, Malbec, Grenache, Mourvedre, and Syrah. Current Annual Production is 5,000 Cases.
