Here we go again!

Fresh start, guys and gals. This is gonna be our big year. We're gonna cut out the sugar, start making our bed in the morning, and make a concerted effort to hide our prison tattoos. We're gonna reduce our soda intake and stop lighting fires in public restrooms. Yep, 2014 is gonna be great!

Features

The Harvest Moon: the moon at and about the period of fullness that is nearest to the autumnal equinox. In the legend of the Harvest moon, it is said that all full moons have their own special characteristics based primarily on the whereabouts of the ecliptic in the sky at the time of year that these moons are visible.

Harvest Moon Estate and Winery was founded on growing, producing and bottling world-class Russian River Valley wine in a balanced, elegant style. Our premise is that Russian River Valley Zinfandel can be just as layered and complex as any Pinot Noir or Bordeaux variety in the world and receive the same respect. The Pitts family has grown quality grapes in the Russian River Valley since 1976. In 2000, son Randy reverse migrated from San Francisco back to Sonoma County to assume the farming responsibilities at the family's modest nine-acre ranch. In conjunction with lessons on farming by his Dad and a few viticulture/enology courses at the local junior college, Randy made a barrel of homemade Zinfandel off the ranch's back block which turned out exceptionally tasty. Quickly concluding that properly farmed and judiciously fermented, Zinfandel has great capabilities of being California's own wine nobility. The growers-turned winemakers birthed their inaugural vintage in 2002 and look forward to making their Zinprint on the winescene for decades to come.

2009 Harvest Moon Late Harvest Zinfandel 375ml 3-Pack

The 2009 Estate Late Harvest is one of exotic juiciness made in a balanced dessert wine approach. With aromas of dusty spiced red fruit, this wine explodes on the palate with juicy bright raspberry. The tart yet slightly sweet fruit lingers long enough to make one not forget its lovely profiles yet leave the palate without the sticky syrupy after taste.

Expect this wine to cellar beautifully for the next 5-8 years.

Once fermentation was underway, the fermenting must was sampled twice daily waiting for the right balance of alcohol, flavor components and residual sugar. When I felt the wine was in balance, the fermentation was arrested via pressing off to a tank with its temperature set to 30 degrees preventing the natural yeast from converting anymore fructose molecules. Other than small 2 pound non-toasted and light toasted oak chip bags steeped in tank for three months, there was nothing added to this wine. This wine was sterile filtered and bottled in late April 2010.

This wine was made from a particularly sunny part of the Estate block. Left for weeks longer on the vine with only sips of water, this wine represents the epitome of our Estate Zinfandel…bright, juicy perfumed, red-berried fruit. This wine begs for another sip…
