Features

2010 Hansen Cellars Heritage Collection Chardonnay, Edna Valley 750ml 6-Pack

Edna Valley is a very cool region, which gives this Chardonnay spectacular notes of tropical fruit, peaches, pears, and some green apple.  A portion of the wine is aged in French oak to provide some richness to the wine, while preserving the fresh fruit and crisp finish.

The wine explodes on the palate with elegant, crisp, fresh characteristics of stone fruit, honeydew melon, ripe pears, and some green apple. The acidic balance is outstanding and it supports a long crisp finish – a classic example of the Chardonnay grape from the Edna Valley.

Vineyard: The grapes come from a spectacular vineyard in the Edna Valley, on the Southern Central Coast of California, a few miles directly east San Luis Obispo.  This is very cool growing region, and perfect for slowly ripening Chardonnay grapes.  The days are warm, but not hot and the evenings benefit from the influence of the cool Pacific Ocean.  The slow maturing grapes develop beautiful characteristics peaches, apricots, green apples and some light tropical fruits, but these power flavors are supported by very firm acidic structure.

Specs

Growing Practices: The vineyard is on vertical trellising system where the fruit will develop below the cordon, providing excellent exposure to the sun as well as perfect airflow. The grapes are harvested by machine at night while the grapes are cool. The yields are small, 3.5 – 5 tons per acre, which ensure the maximum concentration of fruit flavors and good balance of acid.

Harvest: The vineyard was harvested at night by machine. The grapes were at 24.5 degree of brix, which provided outstanding balance between full ripeness of fruit and acidity.

Vinification Process: Upon receiving the grapes the “free run” juice was pumped directly into temperature controlled stainless tanks.  The grapes were the gently pressed, with the juice being added the to initial tank.  The temperature was closely monitored and kept cool to preserve the freshness of the fruit. Shortly after the completion of fermentation, less than 20% of the wine was aged in French oak for approximately 3-4 months.

  • Alcohol: 13.78%
  • Total Acidity: 6.13 g/L
  • pH: 3.40
  • Glucose/Fructose: 0.28 g/100ml
  • The Blend: Chardonnay 100%
