A pail of shades of white.

The second-best answer to the question "Do you like white wine?" is "Be more specific." This six-pack of three Geyser Peak Summer Whites illustrates why.

The bright, pure elegance of the 2012 Pinot Grigio bears little resemblance to the soft, oaky floral and pastry complexity of the 2012 Water Bend Chardonnay, and neither is much like the fresh and fruity 2012 Uncensored White Blend. Just about the only thing these three whites have in common, aside from their color, is Geyser Peak's legacy of award-winning, pioneering winemaking since 1880.

But what's the best answer to the question "Do you like white wine?" This Geyser Peak six-pack illustrates that one, too: "Yes."

Features

2012 Geyser Peak Pinot Grigio, California 750ml 2-Pack

Made without oak or maloloactic fermentation, our Pinot Grigio is a pure expression of the grape varietal, and is best consumed in its youth. Bright, crisp, refreshing and elegant, this is a great sipping wine but will also pair well with lighter fare including salads and shellfish.

Color: Pale straw

Nose: Lychee fruit, white peach, freesia blossoms, white pepper

Palate: Fresh and lively with vibrant acidity, a hint of saffron-like spice, and abundant pear, pineapple, and lychee flavors

Food Pairings: Great aperitif. Also pairs beautifully with salads and shellfish

2012 Geyser Peak Water Bend Chardonnay, Sonoma County 750ml 2-Pack

Our Water Bend Chardonnay takes its name from both the wide bend in the Russian River where our primary vineyard source is located as well as from the use of water bent barrels in the fermentation and aging process. Water bending barrels allows for an exquisite extraction of oak flavor that integrates early into the wine and contributes a soft, rounded texture to the palate. Bright acidity from the fruit brings this textural element into balance and the abundant pome fruit and floral elements add layers of complexity.

Color: Greenish gold

Nose: Acacia blossom, honeycomb, brioche toast, apple

Palate: Marmalade, ginger, pastry crust, brie

Food Pairings: Chardonnay is a versatile variety lending itself well to both lighter and more substantial fare. A classic with fish, it pairs particularly well with swordfish, halibut, and tilapia. It also pairs well with risotto and butternut squash dishes.

2012 Uncensored White Blend 750ml 2-Pack

This wine was designed to showcase the fruit and floral dimensions of the blended varietals. As a highly aromatic white with some residual sugar, it will be best enjoyed in its youth while the aromatics are fresh and bright. There is no additional complexity to be gained from cellaring a wine of this style. Enjoy best in the first 18 months after bottling.

Color: Light green-tinged gold

Nose: Floral with sweet spice and pome fruit notes

Palate: Layered with green apple, pear, quince, rose petal, honeysuckle, lemon, and freesia.

Food Pairings: Great sipping wine. Will pair well with fresh fruit, crudités, very mild cheeses, and salads.

2012 Geyser Peak Pinot Grigio, California 750ml 2-Pack

Growing Season: A nearly ideal season was delivered for vintage 2012. A very mild winter with plenty of rain prepared the vines for an early start in the spring. The calm, still weather during bloom ensured a healthy fruit set; the resulting crop was abundant. Mild summer temperatures allowed for steady ripening with minimal color development – highly desirable as we are making a white wine from dark-skinned grapes. Moderate, varietally correct natural acidity balanced out the sugar accumulation, and at harvest, the grapes were picked with great flavor and full ripeness at low sugar.

Vineyard Description: Our Pinot Grigio vineyards are located in both cool and warm climates, thus providing us with multiple options for blending the final wine. Cool locales bring structural acidity, mineral character, and floral aromatics to the wine, while warmer vineyard locations contribute tropical notes and weight on the palate. To minimize color extraction from the black skins, the fruit was harvested at night or in the cool morning hours and immediately pressed upon receipt at the winery to separate the juice from the skins.

2012 Geyser Peak Water Bend Chardonnay, Sonoma County 750ml 2-Pack

Growing Season: Vintage 2012 was a nearly perfect growing season by any estimation. The winter was mild but provided sufficient rainfall that soils retained adequate moisture to support healthy vine growth. Warm, calm, still weather during bloom ensured a healthy set and a healthy crop load. Minimal rainfall, steady ripening and an abundant crop all conspired to produce a spectacular vintage. Steady temperatures throughout the growing season with an absence of heat spikes and cold spells meant that fruit ripened evenly and thoroughly while retaining balanced acidity. Clear skies and a lack of rain and fog at harvest ensured purity of flavors and optimal harvest conditions.

Vineyard Description: The well-drained gravel-based soils of the central portion of the Alexander Valley are an excellent locale for growing great Chardonnay. Our vineyards sit on the bench above the Russian River and enjoy the daily blanket of fog that is drawn up the river channel from the Pacific Ocean. A blend of multiple clones adds layers of flavor and shows the subtlety of this popular varietal.

2012 Uncensored White Blend 750ml 2-Pack

Growing Season: A nearly ideal season was delivered for vintage 2012. A very mild winter with plenty of rain prepared the vines for an early start in the spring. Excellent calm, still weather during bloom ensured a healthy set and the crop was abundant. Mild summer temperatures allowed for steady ripening. The white varietals used in this blend generally ripened early in the season with the exception of White Riesling that was grown in the Russian River Valley and was slow to mature. Winemaking style, varietal blend: Aromatic white varietals lend themselves to fermentation in stainless steel without the influence of oak. This process allows the natural aromatics to shine through and the beautiful subtleties of each varietal to be optimized. Blending of these complementary varietals layers the final wine and offers dimensions of floral, spice, and fruit that provide complexity without weight.

Geyser Peak Winery

Owner:
Accolade Wines
Founded:
1880
Location:
Geyersville, CA

One of California’s oldest and most renowned wineries, Geyser Peak Winery was founded in 1880 by Augustus Quitzow, a pioneer in Alexander Valley winemaking, Geyser Peak has flourished as an award-winning winery for more than 130 years. Quitzow chose the original winery site in Geyserville for its vantage point of the famed Geysers Geothermal area. The white steam that billowed from the geysers along the mountain slopes provided the winery with a spectacular ‘view of the clouds’.

Today, Geyser Peak pays fond tribute to its past roots in Alexander Valley as it sets forth on a new path into the Dry Creek Valley Appellation where the winery has recently relocated. Although the address is new, the commitment to the highest quality artisan winemaking is not. Geyser Peak will continue to “Reach For Peak” for many years to come.
