One-Upped

My liquid refreshment is better than your liquid refreshment.

"Look at you over there, standing with your fancy water, drinking your water, your fancy water."

What are you talking about?

"I'm talking about YOU. Think you're better than me because you drink $20 bottled water sourced from some pristine alpine spring somewhere?"

Uh, actually, I got this from the gas station. It was 79 cents.

"Whatever. I know your game. But the thing is, I've bested you and you don't even realize it."

No seriously. There is no game. I'm just drinking some water.

"You see this wine?"

You mean the wine in that bottle that you're brandishing wildly a little too close to my skull? Yeah, I see it.

"Well, this is no ordinary wine."

You don't say.

"It's Geyser Peak Sonoma County Chardonnay. You know what that means?"

Enlighten me.

"IT MEANS … that THIS WINE … came from … a GEYSER."

Hahahaha. Oh wait. You're serious, aren't you?

"Of course I'm serious! I bottled it myself just this afternoon."

No way, man. There's no way that is accurate.

"Oh! Look who's jealous of my fancy geyser wine!"

I'm not jealous. You're just clearly insane.

"Insane for the exquisite aromas of green apple, lemon and acacia? Maybe. Crazy for the flavors of guava, pineapple and pear? Definitely. A little COO-COO for the subtle wood notes, vibrant acidity and long, refreshing finish? Absolutely. What can I say? I'm a man of good taste. BETTER taste than you."

Are you also a man with 6th degree steam vent burns and no arms because they got blown off while you were trying to fill a wine bottle over a geyser?

"You wish."

Features

2009 Chardonnay, Sonoma County 750ml 12-Pack

The color is straw with the slightest green cast, which is reminiscent of the color of the skins on freshly picked Chardonnay grapes. In the glass the wine shows exquisite aromas of green apple, lemon, and acacia that dominate the nose and carry through to the palate. In the mouth are flavors of guava, pineapple, and pear mixed with creamy yeast and roasted nut notes that are kept in check by a vibrant acidity. The subtle wood notes lend structure to the blend and lead to a long and refreshing finish. This stylish approach to Chardonnay is best paired with medium-weight cuisine and is an especially pleasing partner to avocado-based dishes, spicy southeast Asian cuisine and light pastas.

Geyser Peak Winery

Founded:
1880
Owner:
Accolade Wines
Location:
Geyserville, CA
One of California’s oldest and most award-winning wineries, Geyser Peak was founded in 1880, a pioneer of the Alexander Valley in Sonoma County. Perched on a hillside across from Geyser Peak Mountain, this beautiful setting overlooks Geyserville, the Russian River and the northern end of Alexander Valley.  A long heritage of winemaking with a relatively recent resurgence, Geyser Peak Winery's roots in Sonoma County winemaking run deep. Founded by Augustus Quitzow, one of Sonoma County's pioneer winemakers, the original winery was built in Geyserville in 1882 and claimed a view of the clouds of thermal steam that billowed from Geyser Peak Mountain's summit.

Today, Geyser Peak is one of the most award-winning wineries in Sonoma County.  It consistently garners some of the most prestigious awards in winemaking, including Winery of the Year and Winemaker of the Year honors. Its outstanding team of winemakers and viticulturalists are noted for fruit-forward, food-friendly wines from prime vineyard sources in the Alexander Valley.
