Sirawesome
"Mommy, where did I come from?"
Well, Durif, when a Frenchman loves a Peloursin vine very much, he starts feeling a little experimental and unwittingly takes it upon himself to merge the Peloursin with other grapes.
Then, about one hundred years later, Peloursin will make an appearance on an American daytime TV talk show and get in a shouting match with throngs of unemployed urchins about your real pollen source - your real daddy, little Durif.
Then, some nice scientists - who, by the way, cunningly convinced a pretty prestigious university to dedicate loads of funding to wine studies - these very smart scientists will conduct a genuine DNA paternity analysis to determine who your daddy actually is.
"My daddy? Who is it?"
It's Syrah, my sweet petite Durif. It's Syrah!
"Oh, this is the happiest day of my life!"
It's probably a pretty happy day for the person who shall tell our tale, little Durif, for her relative teaches at that prestigious university in that aforementioned department of clever scientists, and she can give a shoutout to her uncle David at UC Davis.

2012 Petite Sirah, Estate Bottled, Russian River Valley 750ml 6-Pack
90 Points, Robert Parker
Our 2012 Estate Petite Sirah is truly a treat for the senses. Deep, dark, inky red in color it has rich aromas of Blueberry and Dark Chocolate with subtle earthy hints. The lush mouthfeel is the perfect foil to bright brambly berry flavors that slowly give way to blueberry, dark chocolate, and blackberry and a de-lightfully long finish. Pair this with oxtails with a Port porcini sauce or a delectable lamb ragú.
Winemaking: While many winemakers treat Petite Sirah like a Cabernet, Winemaker Natalie West prefers gentle handling of her Estate Petite Sirah and even treats it like a Pinot Noir. Once in the cellar, the grapes are fermented in open top fermenters with punch downs three times a day, followed by gentle pressing. To help control tannins, Natalie uses only 30 percent new oak. While most of the oak is French, she does like a touch of Hungarian oak to add a little sweetness to the finish. After the aging process, the barrels are blended before bottling.
Vineyards: Located just south of the town of Healdsburg, Foppiano Vineyards sits on 160 acres in the ac-claimed appellation of the Russian River Valley. Cool morning fog and warm summer days create an ideal microclimate for grape growing. The Foppiano family has been producing world class fruit on this land since its purchase in 1896. Today the vineyard is planted to Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, and Sauvignon Blanc on the warmer bench lands, and Pinot Noir & Chardonnay on the cooler lower lying land close to the Russian River.

The story of Foppiano Vineyards is a family epic full of tradition, perseverance and contributions to the history of Sonoma County and the wine industry.
Founded in 1896 by Giovanni Foppiano, Foppiano Vineyards is one of Sonoma County's oldest continually-operated, family-owned wineries. Our family has supplied northern California with wine for over a century, surviving Prohibition in the 1920s by selling home winemaking kits. We believe that through the strength of the family and a commitment to quality, our traditions can be maintained and thrive.
We're proud to be one of the founding members of the Russian River Valley AVA, and continue to enjoy the fruits of our hardworking Italian heritage. To stay on the cutting edge of quality winemaking, we've made important investments in infrastructure and winery equipment throughout the years. The vision of the fifth generation of Foppianos, together with Giovanni’s foresight to purchase land in the Russian River Valley, guides our family into the future while creating a world class wine program representative of our history.
