Diversion Wine is a unique project, brought together by a passion for Washington wine and the Pacific Northwest great outdoors. We were driven to develop a wine that captured not only the distinct terroir of Washington State but that would also depict the majestic beauty of its iconic geography.
Meet our winemaker, Katy Michaud. Katy’s been everywhere. Born in Detroit, moved to Mexico City at age one, started high school in London and finished in Eugene, OR, where she got a degree in art history at the University of Oregon.
She caught the wine bug after moving to Santa Cruz, CA and got a job as a cellar worker at Bonny Doon. She enrolled in the Winemaking program at UC Davis. After a year, she worked a harvest in the Margaret River region in Western Australia. When she returned to Santa Cruz, Katy landed a gig as an assistant enologist at David Bruce Winery. In short order, she moved to Eastern Washington, married a fellow enologist, became assistant wine maker at Canoe Ridge Vineyard in Walla Walla, and became a mom. In the summer of 2007, Katy joined Covey Run. At that time, Covey Run was the largest winery headed by a woman.
