You Gotta Have Standards

There are only three kinds of wine you will never see in a Wine.Woot-Off: fortified wine, pruno, and the kind in a box with a nozzle. Beyond that, anything can happen. (And if you know a good pruno guy, we wouldn't mind having his number. Just in case or whatever.)

Features

2006 Dignus One Malbec 750ml 6-Pack

This robust Malbec, with a hint of Petite Sirah and Syrah, is an intense and complex wine. Peppery yet loaded with red and black fruit.  Plummy in the mouth, with an expressive mid-palate of notes of violets and ripe berries.  Its well-balanced tannins, good acidity and well-rounded structure make this wine a perfect pairing for grilled meats, duck and pork ribs.

Specs

  • Vintage: 2006
  • Varietal: Malbec
  • Appellation: Sierra Foothills
  • Alcohol: 13.6%
  • Release Date: Fall 2009

This vineyard is at 1,400 ft in elevation on a southern aspect. This exposure allowed for good tannin maturation and the elevation and rocky soil provided for perfect drainage. Picked by hand under harvest lights in the early morning hours, the grapes were hand sorted and fermented in open top fermentors.

Aged in French Oak for more than 24 months, battonage was in place for 6 months and then the first racking occurred. This deep purple Malbec screams of Argentina. This robust wine exhibits good acidity and integration with wood and ample tannins which result in a wonderfully round and balanced wine.

Dignus One Wines

Owner:
Armando Hernandez
Location:
San Antonio, TX
Armando Hernandez, originally from Mexico and now living in San Antonio, Texas, started Dignus One from a tremendous passion for wine and a desire to make his own mark on the wine industry. Armando originally hired world renowned winemaker Alberto Antonini to create the Dignus One line of wines. Since then Armando has branched out on his own, developing vineyards and a winery in Texas.. He gladly shares these wines with you, hoping you get as much enjoyment out of them as he did in making them.

The team behind the Dignus project includes a familiar face - Derek, the winemaker for Emery Estate and the Woot favorite 'Unbridled' Cabernet.  He understands two of our favorite things - Cabernet and QPR, so we're happy that he brought this wine to us.
