You can't HANDAL the truth!

I'm a full grown man, ma, so knock it off already! I don't want to be part of this Denier-Handal Petite Sirah 3-Pack family! I'm my own man now; I'm a full-grown Sirah! I handle my own business. I've got an explosive nose and chewy tannins! There's nothing petite about that!

Could a petite guy put up flavors of cocoa, berries, cedar, and more? I don't think so! I'm a REAL Sirah now, and I don't need my mom mother-henning me to death and telling me what to do all the time!

Now give me $20 so I can go to the movies.

Double Gold 2014 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

Immediately spicy in the nose, raspberry fruit, cedar and cinnamon all invite further exploration that leads, on the palate, to a dense chocolate like texture with abundant  red and black berry fruit, chewy tannins, and a warm full-bodied finish.

2012 Petite Sirah, Denier Handal Vineyard, Alexander Valley
An explosive nose offers up ripe black fruit, with elements of toast and nuts, dried rose buds—like blackberry jam on toast.   In the mouth a full body makes for a sweet entry followed by rich fruit, flavors of cocoa, chewy tannins and a long, lingering finish.

2013 Petite Sirah, Venturi Family Vineyard, Calpella, Mendocino County
Fragrant, red and black fruits, cedar, mint, molasses, cocoa powder and nutmeg, dried rose buds, and in the mouth!!!- ripe black fruit, berries, cedar, a tapestry of flavor and texture… chewy tannins augur a long and eventful life.

Harvest Notes
Generally cooler, and finishing with early rains, we were lucky to harvest our Alexander Valley Petite Sirah just as the rains began, and before the water was able to dilute the sugar and flavor of the fruit.  The cooler year allowed a degree of elegance in this normally rough-hewn varietal.  Nonetheless the wine will age for many years to come.

Vendor Details

Denier-Handal Vineyards

Founded:
Vineyard was founded in 1996, the Winery operation in 2009
Owner:
Alyce Denier and Dick Handal
Location:
Glenn Ellen, CA
We have been farming winegrapes and producing wines in Ecuador, Chile, and California for over 27 years.  Dick got started in Ecuador thanks to Don Angel Duran who took him under his wing teaching him about farming grapes.  He was simply a farmer, the Mayordomo of a large hacienda in the highlands of the Andes outside of Quito, the capital of Ecuador, but he knew about grapes.  While working for the Patron, he was sent to Argentina to learn viticulture.  Unfortunately, he could never support his family making wine or Pisco.  Then we met, and he found his chance to return to viticulture.

Although we grow mostly Cabernet Sauvignon we have small amounts of wonderful Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Merlot and Syrah.  Thanks to the guidance of Peter Wellington we were able to start produce excellent wines that he as winemaker, crafted.  We are pleased to be able to share these wines with you.
