Re Re Re Remix

Drink a glass. Feel those funky beats.

Buy this wine: if you usually like the cover more than the original.

Don't drink this wine: if you're not 100% sure where the Danube is.

Left to its own devices, this wine: would layer nectarine, snap peas and white pepper over Miley Cyrus's vocals in "Wrecking Ball."

Some skeptics wonder: if Mother Nature was ticked off that her husband didn't take out the trash when she sent that freak five-day heat wave during the end of an abnormally cool growing season.

Legend has that when the moon is full, this wine transforms into: Richard Simmons

At a karaoke bar, this wine sings: "Take Another Little Piece of My Heart." The Dusty Springfield version.

Remix Wines 2010 Grüner Veltliner, "Danube Remix" Edna Valley 750ml 5-Pack

The Next Remix

Of all the emerging wines, hitting the world stage in the past 15 years, one stands out as the biggest surprise to many, the aromatic, dry whites of Austria, specifically the native variety of Grüner Veltliner.   So, when I got the opportunity to get some of these rare Austrian grapes grown in America, I jumped.

In 2010 Remix Wines got a small quantity from the Paragon Vineyard in Edna Valley. My idea was to was to treat these grapes to a maximum extraction and fermentation to bring out the varietal spice of Grüner. As usual, mother nature had other ideas and she sent a freak 5 day heat wave during the end of an abnormally cool growing season. This sent the profile of the wine way out of the realm of a classic Austrian wine. The end result was a rich, ripe wine with some tropical tones yet with great acidity. The flavors still express the three unique varietal flavor markers of Grüner; nectarine, snap pea and white pepper. It was slowly whole cluster pressed and neutral barrel fermented with extra lees exposure.

Like Iberian Remix, the Grüner Veltliner needed a name that relayed the idea of foreign native varieties, “remixed” in America. So, the Danube Remix name was created to give reference to the famous river that flows through the best Grüner vineyards in Austria. The label features artwork that is an ode to Gustav Klimt, the famous Austrian artist and his paintings the “Tree of Life” and the “Kiss”.

Master Sommelier William Sherer

Master Sommelier, William Sherer produces the unique varieties of Remix Wines. The wines of Iberian Remix were developed out of the desire to showcase the untapped potential of indigenous Spanish grapes in American viticulture. United States has a long history with French and Italian grapes, but has overlooked Spain, the world’s third largest wine producer. The name Iberian Remix refers to the indigenous grapes of the Iberian Peninsula (Spain, Portugal) that are “Remixed” by being American grown and produced. The labels are a nod to Americana and the surf-movie poster Endless Summer, combined with the traditional Spanish vineyard scene. Like Iberian Remix, the new Gruner Veltliner needed a name that relayed the idea of foreign native varieties, “Remixed” in America. So, the Danube Remix name was created to give reference to the famous river that flows through the best Grüner vineyards in Austria. The label features artwork that is an ode to Gustav Klimt, the famous Austrian artist and his paintings the “Tree of Life” and the “Kiss”.
