Our personal opinion is that Hahn Estates missed a great chance to call every bottle of this wine "Spartacus" but maybe that's just us.

You young untrained recruits. Today, you face the most grueling tournament you will ever face. But if you survive, perhaps you will bear the mark... by which I mean the Cycles Gladiator label. Perhaps, if you are good enough, you can find a place among this twelve pack!

On the left, the 2010 Syrah. Dark fruit, espresso, dried herbs and spice. Paired with duck, this hero smashes all competition. And yet, beneath beats the heart of a poet. A poet who pairs with a pastoral pheasant.

On the right, the 2010 Merlot. A silky finish, aromas of plum, oak and caramel. Handles chicken as easily as lamb... or a burger from the grill! This wine's a jolly sort, but deadly serious when facing down the opposition.

And in the center, the 2011 Pinot Noir. A burst of cherries leads some to underestimate this wine, and it knows it. A master of stealth, this wine sneaks up unnoticed. And then, the slight cedar and vanilla grab you - do you even understand how? - and conquers you from within. By the time you go to look for it... it's gone! Only a memory remains, a memory that goes great with mushroom risotto.

If you survive this training, these three four packs will embrace you as a brother or sister. If you do not, you have earned yourself a great honor! For one of these wines will send you on your way!

To honor! To bravery! To the Gladiators!

Features

2010 Syrah 750ml 4-Pack

The deep-ruby-colored Cycles Gladiator 2010 Syrah opens with notes of blueberry and tobacco. Intense flavors burst into the mouth with notes of dark fruit, espresso and dried herbs layered with spice. This wine is complex and balanced, with soft tannins and good acidity, tapering off to an elegant finish. This wine is an excellent partner for foods such as wild fowl and grilled meats. Try it with duck or pheasant dishes, or savory barbecued ribs.

2010 Merlot 750ml 4-Pack

Dark burgundy red in color, the 2010 Cycles Gladiator Merlot is classic and approachable with gorgeous fruit and rich aromas of dark plum, toasty oak and caramel. The flavors are layered and beautifully structured, with cassis, dark chocolate, plum and black cherry, which unfold in the mid-palate, fanning out to solid yet well-integrated tannins that allow the wine a lingering, silky finish. This wine shines with an array of foods. Try it with rich duck confit, braised chicken with honey and five-spice, spicy lamb kabobs or your favorite burger.

2011 Pinot Noir 750ml 4-Pack

This fresh and juicy Pinot Noir bursts out of the glass with aromas of cherries. Unrestrained fruit continues on the palate with the round and supple mouthfeel complementing a medium body that frames delicate tannins. On the finish, a slight cedar and vanilla character show off a delicate oak influence in this easy drinking Pinot Noir. This wine is a great complement to porcini and cremini mushroom risotto or
roast rosemary chicken.

Hahn Estates

Founded:
1980
Owner:
Nicolaus and Gaby Hahn
Location:
Monterey County, CA
The spectacular beauty of California's central coast is probably the best-known region in all of California for its unique lifestyle. Monterey County's dramatic ocean scenery, historic communities, artistic culture, verdant pine forests, and bountiful agriculture have beckoned adventure-seekers, seafarers, artists, writers and vacationers for over 100 years. And the 99 miles of breathtaking Pacific coastline is something no other California county can boast.

With an inspiration to raise Monterey wines to the highest level, the wines of Hahn Estates are created with a philosophy that all great wines are special – akin to the region they were grown in. The Hahn wines celebrate everything that is Monterey – unique in thought, style and setting. In the mid-1970’s, Nicolaus “Nicky” Hahn and his wife, Gaby, bought two ranches –turned –vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands, in the renowned Monterey County appellation on California’s Central Coast.  They produced their first wines in 1980.  As we mark our 30th anniversary, the Hahns now own about 1,000 acres in Monterey County, with half in the Santa Lucia Highlands.  Hahn Family Wines produces eight brands: Hahn Winery, Smith & Hook, Hahn SLH Estate, Cycles Gladiator, Huntington, Lucienne, BIN 36, and Copa del Rey.
