2012 "Compadre" Vino Blanco, Paso Robles 750ml
Golden straw hued tears gently travels down the side of the glass. Fresh cut orange blossoms and honeysuckle integrate the nose. A slight hint of warmed honey can be detected. The vibrant acidity on the palate displays the fresh qualities of the wine. Cloves and a hint of fresh vanilla help add complexity and balance. The rich developed texture showcases extended battonage. The broad texture coats the mouth with orange oil and melon. The long rich finish concludes with a dry refreshing finish.

Vineyard Notes
The fruit for this 2012 white blend was sourced from several of our growing partners in Paso Robles. Hidden Valley Vineyard (Viognier), Catherine’s Vineyard (Albariño & Vermentino) and Coyote Moon Vineyards (Vermentino).

Vintage Notes
The 2012 vintage was an excellent growing season in Paso Robles. A gentle spring with mild temperatures through April and May gave a great start to the growing season. Cool temperatures and seasonable conditions resulted in flowering and a nice fruit set. A sunny summer was followed by a long cool ripening period. The extra hang-time allowed excellent flavor in the ripe grapes.

2012 Albarino - Ole, Paso Robles 750ml
An overall golden hue is seen throughout the wine. Scents of fresh picked white peaches and white flowers dominate the nose. Hints of orange blossoms can be discovered. The palate is covered in peaches, banana, and macadamia nut oil. The rich texture goes well with the steeped vanilla notes and orange oil found on this great example of a warm climate Albarino.

Vineyard Notes
All fruit for the 2012 Albariño was sourced from Catherine’s Vineyard on the east side of Paso Robles. The Albariño was grafted in 2008 onto 110R rootstock.

2012 Grenache Blanc - Oracle, Paso Robles 750ml
A green tint is seen throughout the wine hinting towards its secondary aromas found in the wine. High acids and mineral notes showcase Neil's ability to express terroir. The fresh lime and lemon zest found show the citrus driven wine with a touch of grilled pineapples and a broad masculine mouth feel and soft round finish.

Clavo Cellars

Founded:
2004
Owner:
Neil Roberts
Location:
Templeton, California
Our story began in the vineyards of El Paso De Robles, California; with one of the best known viticulturists in California, Neil Roberts. Neil has over 20 years of experience in the wine industry throughout California’s many appellations. His career may have started with the Mondavi family, but it truly began when he got the chance to express himself and his knowledge through Clavo Cellars. In 2004 Neil made the decision to create his first wine label.

The name Clavo was given to Neil by the Mexican-American field workers he worked very closely with during his time with Mondavi. This nickname was a symbol of acceptance and respect. When it came time to name his brand, there was no question.

He created Clavo Cellars with the intent to showcase the many qualities of the Paso Robles Appellation. Neil believes wine is grown in the vineyard and simply maintained in the cellar. Through Neil’s primary business, Roberts Vineyard Services, he manages over 1,600 acres of vineyard from the southernmost part of Monterey County down through Edna Valley, San Luis Obispo.

Neil has chosen to use only fruit from the vineyards he manages to insure quality from the ground to the glass. Clavo focuses on varietals that flourish in the microclimates throughout Paso Robles. With access to some of the best vineyard sites on the central coast of California we have created a brand that truly focuses on the best that our region has to offer.

With the exception of our Pinot Noir, Paso Robles AVA is where all of our grapes are sourced for the Clavo label. Paso Robles is known for its hot summer days and cool nights; and its steep rolling hillsides piled high with calcareous soils. This provides a perfect climate for many French, Spanish, and Italian varietals. The Pinot Noir, on the other hand, is grown in the much cooler region of Edna Valley, San Luis Obispo. Edna Valley is home to hundreds of acres of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The region is known for its cool coastal influences and lower elevation.

Clavo Cellars is all about growing wine in the vineyard and sharing it with anyone who can appreciate the passion and hard work behind each glass.
