Wine Time

It's summer, which can only mean one thing - it's time to drink copious amounts of white wine.

These wines, while enjoyable at any time during the year, are best sipped on in summer. Add them to your Seasonal Cellar alongside other wines that should be enjoyed at specific times, such as:

Winter Wines - Unlike the lighter, sweeter summer wines, winter wines are often dry, red, and go well with being cold and miserable.

Merlober October - A collection of 31 Zinfandels, one for each day. Not to be taken part in alone.

A Very Sherry Christmas - Nothing says “I wish I didn’t have to deal with my family” more than a big old bottle of fortified wine.

Chardonnay Day - A holiday in Chardonnay, France, where residents must consume nothing but Chardonnay for a full 24-hour period.

Port Year - Portugal declared 1966 to be “The Year of Port,” when everyone drank this dessert wine with dinner for the entire year. At the end of the year they were faced with the reality of how gross Port is, and decided to just export it from there on out.

Breakfast Gewürztraminer - A wine designed specifically for Germans (you drink it in the morning).

Features

2010 Lot 270 Russian River Sauvignon Blanc 750ml 2-Pack

Lot 270 has a striking nose of grapefruit, melon and white flowers that is fresh and elegant. Brilliant acidity balances with bright fruit for a wonderfully balanced texture and an overall fantastic wine.

  • Gold Medal: Denver International Wine Competition

2010 Lot 302 Leyda Valley Sauvignon Blanc 750ml 2-Pack

Lot 302 2010 Leyda Valley Sauvignon Blanc is very consistent in both style and direction – citrus, melon and fresh cut grass lead to a mouth watering midpalate with juicy acidity and plenty of delicately rendered fruit.

  • Gold Medal: Winemaker Challenge

2011 Lot 319 Moscato D'Asti 750ml 2-Pack

Delicately sweet and lightly frizzante, this wine is playful and aromatic across the palate, making it a terrific aperitif or great just on its own. With some well-balanced residual sugar and its notable spritz, the finish is impeccably clean and refreshing. In fact, this perfectly balanced Moscato is quite a pleasure after encountering some of the dark, syrupy Moscatos that do damage to a good, crisp Moscato's reputation.

  • Gold Medal: San Francisco International Wine Competition

2010 Lot 270 Russian River Sauvignon Blanc 750ml 2-Pack

Sauvignon Blanc truly thrives in a region like the Russian River Valley, where warm days play with cold evenings and foggy mornings to produce great cool climate varietals. Acidity is such an integral part of any wine especially Sauvignon Blanc. This vineyard is located in an ideal part of the Russian River Valley, providing a dynamical climate for beautiful acidity in this varietal.

2010 Lot 302 Leyda Valley Sauvignon Blanc 750ml 2-Pack

Lot 302 comes from the cool maritime climate of the Leyda Valley of Chile. This wine in particular shows incredible complexity with such fun texture and structure. Not only is the soil beautiful, but the wines themselves are plain and simply delicious. As some are not as familiar or appreciative of Chile's wines, if there ever was a wine to change their there while outlook on Chile, it's this one.

2011 Lot 319 Moscato D'Asti 750ml 2-Pack

After a few years of fruitless searching, Cameron Hughes finally came up with a terrific Moscato producer last spring to regale them with the delicious and ridiculously popular Lot 228 Moscato (which sold out in a flash). The good news is they are back with the 2011 version from the same producer. Lot 311 2011 Moscato D’Asti is the real deal and every bit as good as last year’s wine.
