2014 Browne Family Vineyards Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, 3L

  • Gold, San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

Inky red, almost black in color, this classic Cabernet Sauvignon is heavily concentrated with black cherry, truffle oil and savory flavors of herb and mint, accented by aromas of dusty earth and graphite. Medium heavy tannins are balanced with bright, clean acidity, to finish with a good coating on the tongue of tannins that are fruit forward and balanced with cedar.

Crafted as a cellar worthy wine; enjoy now or cellar for up to ten years.

Vintage Note: The 2014 Washington State harvest proved to be spectacular with a record crop level and excellent quality. All factors needed for success came together perfectly: cool nights, lots of warm weather in the growing season, and rain limited mostly to the shoulder seasons. Harvest started the third week of August and wrapped in the second week of November. The crop across the state was heavy, yet bountiful with quality. Our vineyard team enjoyed weather that enabled them to pick at will, affording perfect flavor, acidity, and sugar levels.

Winemaking: The fruit for Browne Family was harvested at the peak of Phenolic ripeness and tested on the vine for flavor and structure. Once harvested, all grapes were handpicked into small 1/2 ton bins and immediately de-stemmed. The winery "crusher", used to de stem fruit was removed to maintain 70% whole berries during fermentation. This allowed for great extraction of color and increased the maturity of tannins making the wine more approachable. After pressing occurred, primary fermentation was completed in stainless steel. The new wine was then transferred to 59-gallon French oak casks; selected for their intense Cabernet varietal characterisitics and to balance the fruit tannins. The Browne Family 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon was barred aged for 22 months.

Browne Family Vineyards

Andrew Browne, principal of Browne Family Vineyards, is the first to tell you he’s a taste maker, not a winemaker. As a curator of the brightest talent, best vineyards and the divining rod of winning concepts at Precept Wine, where he serves as its CEO, his groundbreaking feats across the wine industry carry through to his own family legacy in wine, Browne Family. Throughout his 20-year career ascent in the wine industry, he was laying the foundation for his namesake family winery.

Inspired by the greatness of one man—his Grandfather, William Bitner Browne—integrity and excellence are the standards upon which Browne wines are created. This is premium Washington wine, made with the utmost quality and enjoyment in mind.

Browne Family Vineyards was 15 years in the making before its first vintage ever debuted. Founder Andrew Browne selected viticulturists, winemakers and cellar masters to represent the best handcrafted lots from within Columbia Valley AVA. To date, Browne has received more than 20 scores of 90 points or higher from critical reviews.

Known primarily for Cabernet Sauvignon, a Bordeaux red blend and Chardonnay, Browne Family has expanded to also include a Merlot and Petit Verdot. Each year’s very limited production brings a fresh opportunity to raise the bar.

After the harvest of its popular Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, for example, grapes go into half-ton bins, are de-stemmed and approximately 70 percent whole berries are retained for richer color extraction and captured tannins for superior flavor. Aging in French and American oak casks brings balance and enhances varietal expression. This hand-crafted dedication is felt throughout the entire wine-making process.

Browne Family’s state-of-the-art production facilities assure pristine, climate-controlled conditions from harvest to cooperage to bottle.  Every step taken is a careful commitment for uncompromised quality, assuring cellar-worthy vintages that stand the test of time. Guaranteed by Andrew Browne – no exceptions!
