Bang, Zoom, To The Moon
You need to know exactly two things about Oregon's Willamette Valley:
- It's pronounced wuh-LAM-it, not WILL-uh-met.
- It produces world-class Pinot Noir.
After that it's all details. And the details don't get much more delicious than Biggio Hamina Pinot Noir. Here we have one bottle of the 2009 Deux Vert Vineyard (a wine with verve, vigor, vim, in dark fruit and spice form) and two of the 2011 dual-vineyard blend (with a little more floral and earth character), both fully illustrative of essential truth #2 about the Willamette Valley. And honestly, if you can only remember just one, that's the one that matters.
Features
2009 Biggio Hamina Pinot Noir, Deux Vert Vineyard 750ml
Blackberries, violets and spice waft from the glass in a delightful manner. On the palate the dark fruits play well with the zingy acidity. This wine from marine sedimentary soils has excellent structure and fits on the dinner table succinctly. The fine tannins frame the finish nicely and the dark berries and cherries linger.
Bright medium red. Highly perfumed bouquet evokes dried red berries, incense, licorice and floral oils. Fleshy but focused, offering intense red and dark berry flavors that show suave spiciness and a hint of candied lavender. Finishes spicy and long, with a lingering floral element. Made with 42% whole clusters and aged in 20% new oak.

2011 Biggio Hamina Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 750ml 2-Pack
The 2011 blend of two vineyards is an exercise in elegance and persistence. Made with 50% whole clusters, it balances the tannin with beautiful floral and earthy nuances. The wine serves to remind of how gorgeous and restrained Oregon wines can make your best dinner even better.
Vivid red. Sexy aromas of candied red berries, Asian spices and orange zest. Light-bodied strawberry and cherry flavors show good focus and a tangy edge. Distinctly lithe, in the style of the better wines of the vintage. Closes clean and nervy, with excellent clarity and spicy persistence. This pinot delivers superb value.

2011 Biggio Hamina Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 750ml 2-Pack
The 2011 Willamette Valley is a blend of Deux Vert vineyard and Zenith vineyard. Both of these vineyards lie in the northern Willamette Valley, yet are strikingly different. The Deux Vert is old Marine sedimentary soils (think seafloor) and brings a fine structure and dark fruits. The Zenith vineyard is volcanic soil with an alluvial deposit on top. This brings wine with soft mouthfeel, floral and red fruit components. By blending them together, and not using any new oak, Biggio Hamina is able to present an elegant wine with structure and dimension.
