2013 Bench Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast 750ml 2-Pack

Deep ruby purple in color, this wine offers intense, dark forest fruit and notes of plum on the nose.  The palate is tightly focused with bright currant, cola and cedar.  The mouthfeel is supple with well integrated tannins that provide the integrity for this noteworthy wine.

Vineyard: Sourced primarily from the cool climate Sangiacomo Amaral Ranch Vineyard, situated north of San Pablo Bay.  A small amount of the Russian River Valley Hurst Vineyard was blended with this wine for additional depth, structure and complexity.

Vintage: The 2013 growing season essentially offered conditions that were as close to perfect as they come.  Early winter rains were followed by a warm, dry spring, resulting in an early growing season that saw no frost.  Summer was warm, but without the usual heat spikes to shut the vines down or produce sunburn.  Ripening occurred earlier than usual, and was very even. The wines are bright, energetic, with beautiful aromatics and full of complexity.

2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley 750ml 2-Pack

The 2013 Bench Cabernet Sauvignon exudes a dark, deep purple color in the glass.  The nose is vibrant with violets, huckleberry and a touch of vanilla spice.  The palate is elegantly wound with dusty tannins and a supple, velvet texture.  The long, seamless finish ebbs and flows with flavors of black currant, dark cocoa and forest floor.

Vineyard: The vineyard is located in Southern Alexander Valley, along the Western bench of the Mayacamas.  These soils are rocky and volcanic, with excellent early and mid day sun exposure.  The water stressed vines thrive only because the Mayacamas peaks protect them from the harsh afternoon sun.

2013 Merlot, Knight's Valley, Sonoma County 750ml 2-Pack

The wine showcases a deep ruby red hue, with an expressive nose that promises bing cherry, currant and cedar notes.  The palate is broadly textured with cocoa, forest fruit coulis and toasty vanilla spice which is complemented by elegant, silky tannins on the finish.

Vineyard: On a north-facing ridge in Sonoma County's Knights Valley AVA at elevations ranging from 300 to 1300 feet is the Totem Ridge Vineyard.  Most vines were planted in 1991 under the guidance of the renowned Paul VanderSchalie, whose work as a viticulturist in Knights Valley spanned thirty years and included his influence on nearby Peter Michael Winery.  The soil is a rich, rocky volcanic loam that give the distinctive intensity to Merlot from this AVA.

Vintage: After two challenging years of weather, in 2012, Mother Nature gave growers one of the best harvests in recent history.  Growing conditions throughout the year produced an abundant crop of mature grapes with balanced flavors and good structure.  A wealth of California coastal weather - fog in the morning, and warm sunshine in the afternoon - often sent temperatures into the mid 90s, quickly cooling off after sunset.  The daily cyclical temperature shift often hit 50 degrees, and continued into September ripening fruit evenly and slowly. Fruit quality was exceptional.

Specs

2013 Bench Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast 750ml 2-Pack

Fermentation: All fermentations were completed in open top, stainless steel tanks and punched down by hand as many as five times a day.  All of our reds are fermented through the use of indigenous/native populations for both primary and secondary fermentation. The must is pressed off just before going dry to preserve a supple structure, core of fruit and some barrel fermentation for better integration with the oak.

  • pH: 3.58
  • TA: .67
  • Alcohol: 13.9%
  • Cooperage & Aging: The wine was aged in 100% French oak, 30% of it new for 9 months

2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley 750ml 2-Pack

Fermentation: The grapes were de-stemmed only, then transferred by gravity to stainless steel fermentation tanks.  After a long cold soak, the must was allowed to warm and ferment with indigenous yeast.  After a steady fermentation to complete dryness, the new wine stayed on the grape skins for an extended maceration to develop mouthfeel and structure.  The wine was pressed off 6 weeks after it went into tank.  Malolactic fermentation was left to complete indigenously.

  • pH: 3.63
  • TA: .66
  • Alcohol: 13.9%
  • Cooperage & Aging: The wine was aged for 16 months in 100% French oak barrels, 40% new

It was 2008. We were standing at the edge of Enos vineyard and on the edge of a big idea.
Three generations. Two growers. One winemaker. Three friends.

Today we are a thriving winery with more than fifteen fine wine brands, located in the Russian River Valley near Sebastopol, California, built on a foundation of our shared passion for wine and a belief that there is always a better way.

Brack Mountain doesn’t follow the pack. We look at things differently, and we’re not afraid to break with convention. We challenge assumptions and turn constraints into solutions. We value hard work and intellectual nimbleness, and we love a challenge.

At the end of the day, we produce age-worthy, handcrafted wines—wines that we love to drink—at every price tier. This is the idea behind Brack Mountain and the measure of our success.
