Caesar While You Can

This most August Sangiovese. We think you'll find it inspiring. In all things. Even the weird ones.

You have a friend (we all do) who can do no wrong. He or she glides through life bringing what, to other men and women, would appear as disaster. And yet for your friend, it's all perfect! People admire him or her, even when they're passed out after drinking thirty pitchers of sangria and breaking a pool cue over a nun.

To that friend, we dedicate the August Ridge Paso Robles Sangiovese. For is "august" not the best description for a person who is worth of admiration? Is "august" not the word for someone majestic enough to say "Let's get a taco" in a way that makes you believe you're having a four-course meal with the President of the Universe? Is "august" not the word for a human being who can leap from the balcony into a golf cart that they actually convinced you to steal?

So be aware. This August Ridge Paso Robles Sangiovese will go with fancy pasta and intelligently chosen cheese, but it'll also turn pizza night into an extravagant event. It'll fit in well with a simple balcony party, but also overflow into an explosive bacchanal that somehow ends with the ocean on fire. The August Ridge Paso Robles Sangiovese is worthy of your admiration, even if you're not entirely sure how and why.

If nothing else, it's probably worth keeping it around in case trouble arises. One never knows when knowing the right "august" persona will come in handy.

2006 August Ridge Sangiovese 750ml 4-Pack

The 2006 Sangiovese is an outstanding example of a full bodied Italian style wine. The complexity of spicy dried fruits and pepper fill the mid palate and the finish lingers forever. Aromas of dried cherries, plums and strawberries match delicate flavors of caramel and dark chocolate. Enjoy with spicy antipasti, sharp cheese, heavy pasta sauces, grilled meats and pizza.

Owner/Winemaker John Backer shares his Sangiovese – its fruit flavors are from California but it also has the elegant spice and style of the Italian Sangiovese. Salute!

Estate wines provide the winemaker with control from the vineyard to the bottle so they are the key to achieving the August Ridge goals of power and finesse. August Ridge has vineyards of Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. These wines are crafted by hand using small open top fermenters, a mixture of new French and neutral oak barrels and a minimum of handling or disruption.  Each wine is deliberately hand-made in small lots to bring out the uniqueness of the vineyard microclimates and diverse soil structures.  There is also a full laboratory to take advantage of the latest developments in enology to ensure that August Ridge wines achieve quality by design not by accident.

Founded:
2001
Owners:
John Backer and Jill Zamborelli Backer
Location:
Paso Robles/Creston
August Ridge was established by John Backer and Jill Zamborelli Backer in the spring of 2001 with the purchase of 40 acres of rolling hills in Creston. From the beginning their goal was to produce wines that combine the robust styling of the best California wines with the restrained elegance of the classic wines from northern and central Italy. Their passion for the project comes from a love of cooking, eating and sharing meals with friends which leads directly to the August Ridge wine style. This dream is a natural extension of both the Backer and Zamborelli families. John’s family has been growing grapes for four generations dating back to the 1800’s while Jill’s family brings the robust Italian food and traditions from a small town just outside of Rome, Italy.

Combining the robust styling of the best California wines with the restrained classic elegance of wines from northern and central Italy, August Ridge produces distinctive Cal-Ital wines that emphasize the uniqueness of the Paso Robles region.
