Take A Peak

Upon first peek, this is a Peak worth further exploring.

We don't know how frequently or how closely you check Wine.Woot, but if you're the type who only takes a peek, maybe before bed or when you get up in the morning, your peek is about to go rewarded ... with a peak.

That's right. We're peaking right back at you by offering this Atlas Peak Mixed Red wine. A peak for a peek, you might say.

If you only peeked at this wine, you might not have noticed the features, but you'll be getting two wines: a 2007 Atlas Peak Merlot and a 2007 Atlas Peak Cabernet Franc. The Merlot has flavors of cherry and raspberry and undertones of cedar and vanilla oak. Meanwhile, the Cabernet Franc has flavors of blackberry and fruit jam along with decadently supple tannins.

There you go. Aren't you glad you peeked?

Features

2007 Atlas Peak Merlot 750ml

Located at 2,600 ft elevation on the western slopes of the Vaca range, the Atlas Peak vineyard overlooks the magical Napa Valley. Home to a wide variety of grapes, the soil and climate tends to favor Bordeaux varietals producing fruit with substantial tannin, concentration and finesse.

Tasting Notes:

  • NOSE: Cocoa, mocha, sage, cedar chest and cigar box
  • PALATE: Well structured for aging with dominant cherry and raspberry fruit. Mellow with surprising complexity, undertones of cedar and vanilla oak
  • FOOD PAIRING: Pork, wood-fired pizzas, smoked meats, eggplant dishes

2007 Atlas Peak Cabernet Franc 750ml

The 2007 vintage was characterized by a beautiful ripening season. Low rainfall in Winter, earlier-than-normal bud break in March and overall mild growing season allowed for longer hang-time on the vine. Result: the tannins, sugars, and ripeness all came into alignment in unison to produce a superior harvest.

Tasting Notes:

  • NOSE: Aromatic and herbaceous with intense ripe, dark fruits
  • PALATE: Blackberry and fruit jam; exudes warmth. A hefty red; substantial body and decadently supple tannins
  • FOOD PAIRING: Meat, lamb, duck

Winemaker Ondine Chattan describes these two reds from the ideal 2007 vintage.

Vendor Details

Atlas Peak

Owner:
Accolade Wines
Founded:
1987
Location:
Napa, CA
Atlas Peak was established in 1987. Over time it became clear that Atlas Peak’s most valuable hidden resource was literally underfoot: the elevation of its vineyards. The grapes growing at high elevation, and above the natural fog line, experience much lower daytime temperatures than those on the valley floor, allowing the grapes to stay cool while gaining maximum sun exposure. As a result, growers up on the mountain can afford to harvest later and pick for flavor with less worry about over ripening and excessive alcohol. No grape develops as well in mountain conditions as Cabernet Sauvignon.

The mountain series from Atlas Peak explores the diversity of the Napa Valley region at an entirely different level. Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is known for its lush, full-bodied character with big, bold tannins, and deep, concentrated color. The Mountain Cabernet Series includes five wines sourced from four of the finest mountain appellations in Napa: Atlas Peak, Mt. Veeder, Spring Mountain District, and Howell Mountain. Our goal at Atlas Peak is to create wines that distinctly reflect their origin.
