Elements symbolizes the philosophy that when the five basic elements are in balance, harmony exists.

Metal: the minerality in the soil, Water: for the vines, Wood: the vines themselves, Fire: the sun that ripens the grapes, Earth: the soil Elements exists because of Artesa’s winemaking team’s ability to farm and source grapes from prime viticultural areas of Sonoma County. They have spent years identifying the specific qualities that produce world class wine grapes: site, terrain, vine orientation, and micro-climate. The wine comes from some of the most highly regarded subappellations in Sonoma County like Alexander Valley and Knights Valley. The harmony and balance continue in crafting the wine creating superb flavor.

2011 Elements Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma County 750ml 3-Pack

This smooth, silky wine coats the palate with intense fruit flavors of cherry and cassis. Sweet oak chimes in to create a beautiful harmony, and fine tannins lengthen the supple texture of this well-balanced, full bodied wine.

Color: Deep red color with ruby highlights
Aroma: Inviting lush red fruit aromas of strawberry and red currants with a hint of pepper, all spice, plums and tobacco

Vintage: The 2011 vintage started off with a relatively dry winter. Early spring was wet and cold and it delayed bud break. The overcast weather was persistent throughout the spring and cool temperatures, rain, and even hail during the bloom caused low yields. The summer was also cool and the verasion did not occur until August. The harvest began almost four weeks later than average and at a slow pace until the first week of October. Intensive care from vineyards to winemaking enabled us to produce stunning wines with remarkable delicacy.

Vineyards: The grapes for this wine were sourced from several vineyards in Sonoma County where generally warmer temperatures prevail. These vineyards range from mountainside which requires intensive viticulture, including canopy management for proper sun exposure, careful leaf removal and irrigation management to ensure vines achieve even and complete berry ripening to valley floor where uniformity and consistency come more naturally.

2012 Elements Sonoma County Red Table Wine 750ml 3-Pack

This blend showcases notes of blackberry cassis, blueberry, plums, and spice and delicate aromas of nutmeg, vanilla, caramel and toffee. A bold entry leads to refreshing berry flavors and superb acidity keeps the wine’s texture lively and flavors well-integrated. Mature tannins add complexity followed by a smooth finish. This is a one-of-a-kind wine that over delivers in the bottle.

Color: Deep red color with crimson highlights
Aroma: Aromas of red currant, cherry and a hint of strawberries dusted with cocoa powder

Vintage: The 2012 vintage was an ideal growing season from bud break to harvest. The cold winter delayed bud break briefly until spring temperatures allowed uniform shoots to development. The weather during bloom was ideal for fruit set and a large percentage of flowers developed into berries. During the summer the cycle of warm days and cool nights allowed verasion to progress uniformly and quickly. The consistent temperatures and absence of heat spikes removed the risk of sunburn and allow for even ripening. After the prior two late vintages, growers were grateful to start harvest in late August. With warm sunny days, harvest progressed with a steady flow of high quality fruit. A late heat wave was perfect for finishing up the season.

A Winemaking Legacy

In the 1980s, the historic Spanish winemaking family Codorníu Raventós began to acquire and develop vineyard land in the Carneros region of Napa Valley. Opened in 1991 as Codorníu Napa, a sparkling wine house, the winery ultimately transitioned to producing still wines as successive vintages revealed the quality and potential of the family’s vineyard holdings. The winery was renamed Artesa – Catalan for “handcrafted” – in 1997, and has since become a leading producer of artisan wines from the varietals for which Carneros and Napa Valley are best known: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. Codorníu Raventós is still family owned and is the oldest company in Spain with a winemaking legacy in the Penedès region near Barcelona that dates back to 1551. Today, Codorníu Raventós owns wineries in Spain, Argentina and California, and brings generations of expertise to Artesa.
