Features
Formerly known as the Westerly Vineyard, this vineyard lies in the warmer reaches of the Santa Ynez Valley, where Andrew Murray Vineyards have a couple of acres under contract of the French Clones 383 and 99. The Syrah from here is always a bigger Syrah simply due to the warmer climate and the very rocky and steep terrain, yet the wines always show balance and restraint due to the impeccable farming and very cool evenings at the site. The aromas and flavors here lean more on the fruit driven side with a refreshing core of spiciness from the French clones. The wine was bottled after 20 months in mostly newer French Oak Barrels, and has been aged in bottle for nearly a year prior to release.
2009 Syrah, Terra Bella Vineyard
The Syrah from this vineyard grows on steep, limestone-rich hillsides and arrives at the winery very ripe yet balanced, yielding a deeply colored wine (darkest in the cellar) with distinctive aromas and flavors of blueberries and raspberries. This wine was aged in mostly new French oak, so there is a nice layer of vanilla, clove, and toasty notes as well. This is a very full-bodied wine that will benefit from more aging in the bottle. It is suggested you drink this over the next 3-7 years.
