2009 Ad Lib Middle of Everywhere Shiraz, Frankland River, Australia 750ml

This Shiraz is classic Australian: aromas of blueberries, oak spice and white pepper, with flavors of berry fruit, cinnamon and nutmeg. Great with barbecue.

“Shiraz from the Middle of Everywhere”
A fragrant wine, deep and inky in colour with a perfume of violets and dried flowers. Ripe black cherry and blackberry fruits accented with black pepper. The finely textured tannins allow this medium-bodied wine to carry the juicy, sweet black fruit across the palate. Drink with duck ragout.

Moderate Summer months allowed for a gentle ripening and juicy Shiraz berries as a result. Berries and bunches were small, resulting in a wine of intense colour and flavour. The fruit was selected and hand-picked from sites across Frankland River. Cold maceration for four days proceeded by a long, cool fermentation. The wine spent six months in new and one year old oak prior to bottling.

Larry Cherubino is a leading winemaker and consulting winemaker in Western Australia. Ad Lib wines represent the best of Western Australia’s single vineyard varietals. Larry and Edwina Cherubino founded their winery in 2005. The Cherubinos own a Shiraz vineyard in Frankland River and source fruit from Margaret River, Pemberton and the Porongurups. Their philosophy is to produce traditional varieties best suited to each regions and experiment with new varietals. The wines are imported and distributed in the U.S. by Middleton Family Wines. - See more

About Middleton Family Wines

Founded:
1960's
Owner:
Rick Middleton
Location:
Paso Robles and Central Coast, CA
Our family has been working the land since 1898, when we started a lumber business in Aberdeen, on the coast of Washington State. We began with lumber and forestry, and have thoughtfully and gradually expanded our family business to include table grapes, wine grapes, and wine. Today our businesses are at home in Hoquiam (Washington – next door to Aberdeen), Walla Walla (Washington), Delano (California), and Paso Robles (California).

Because we’ve had four generations in the family business, we’re interested in building things that will last, for the fifth, sixth, seventh generations, and beyond.  Our wine business includes three wineries: Cadaretta (Walla Walla Valley and Columbia Valley), Clayhouse (Paso Robles and Central Coast), and Buried Cane (Washington State).

The Clayhouse label and brand celebrate a historic home at our estate vineyard near Paso Robles. That 150-year-old adobe structure – the Clayhouse itself – still reminds us of the time when grapes were first planted in this area. The Clayhouse, which we’ve carefully restored, is really the ideal symbol for our vineyard and winery. After all, like the adobe, our wines are created from the earth, cultivated by hand, and nurtured by family traditions.

For the Middleton family, those traditions and deep passion for agricultural businesses go back more than four generations.

Today, Clayhouse Wines extend that proud family legacy with a selection of exceptional wines, all crafted by hand in a refined, elegant style that reflects the unique character of Paso Robles and the depth of flavor that the Central Coast imparts.
