Which Kind?

Wake up to 1000 Faces. Coffee! We're talking about the coffee!

You're looking energetic this morning.

"I am! I'm wide awake! I'll tell you, Suzanne. I tried that 1000 Faces business, and I woke up with no problems. I got to my bus stop early, I got to work early, and now I'm here, ten minutes ahead of schedule."

Great! I'm glad you like it.

"There is one thing, though."

What's that?

"There's this one guy named Rob that kept making these really annoying noises. It's like, okay, I get it, I'm supposed to be waking up, but can you chill out for a second?"

Who's Rick?

"Oh, he's just one of the 1000 faces I hired to sit beside my bed and wake me up."

You hired faces?

"Well, if we're being specific, I hired people."

You know that when I said 'try 1000 Faces', I meant the coffee, right?

"What!? No. Crap. Uhhhhh, do you have any tips on how to fire 1000 people?"

Features

Aldo’s Blend, 12 oz. Bag

The House dark roast blend. For the loyal supporters who love 1000 Faces Coffee but are nostalgic for taste notes reminiscent of Catfish Hunter or Charlie Parker: dark, oily, stanky, musty, full-bodied, peppery, meaty, and seasoned. This is a blend of Indonesian and South American greatness. If you like full-bodied coffee, this is the choice for you.

El Joaquin, 12 oz. Bag

A couple of years ago, while traveling through Central America, 1000 Faces Coffee bumped into Tim O’brien at the airport in northern Panama. During his Peace Corps assignment in Costa Rica, Tim became committed to the coffee industry and ended up purchasing a coffee farm that soon gained worldwide acclaim. Tim has recently begun importing small select lots from other producers he has developed a relationship with. By helping these producers access technologically-advanced processing tools, he is unearthing a new bouquet of special coffees in Costa Rica. El Joaquin is the first selection from Tim’s work. 1000 Faces Coffee is very excited to be partnering with his social enterprise in bringing this coffee to the US marketplace. El Joaquin is the name of a small farm managed by William Hidalgo Vindas in the Cedral region near Tarrazu. The coffee has a delicate citrus acidity and a milk chocolate body that is reminiscent of Nutella and warm cookies. 1000 Faces bought this entire micro-lot.

Kokanna, 12 oz. Bag

The Yirgacheffee Region is to coffee what the Loire Valley is to French Wine. Grade 1 Yirg’s are diamonds, and the 2013 Kokanna may shine the brightest of this region's producing partners. Coffee farmers who bring cherry to the Kokanna washing station are generally managing no more than 2 hectares of land. They grow cherry under the rich biodiversity of Acacia, podocarpus, and cordial African tree canopy. The ideal air circulation of this micro-region provides climate stability for steady, even drying times on raised beds made of sustainably harvested wood. Washed mixed heirloom varietals compose this lot.

Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza, 12 oz. Bag

Combining layers of deep earth and chocolate with a surprising amount of red fruit, nuance is this coffee’s middle name. 1000 Faces' newest Latin American exudes a woodsy aroma and inherits a complex and layered mouthfeel. The aftertaste is clean and fresh. The Brazilian producers of this gem, Bob-o-link Alliance, are committed to environmental stewardship, quality, and sustainability. Their small property farms are run by single or extended families, all of whom share the vision of producing the most excellent coffee through ethical means.

Vendor Details

1000 Faces Coffee Company

Owner:
Benjamin Meyers and Jason Mann
Founded:
2006
Location:
Athens, GA

Our name comes from Joseph Campbell’s book, The Hero With A Thousand Faces. We believe, like Campbell did, that there is more to life than commercial success or representational living. As Campbell said, “a hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” There is a greatness to be had from life (and coffee), only discoverable by taking on this heroic role and giving yourself over to whichever passion in life most preoccupies you. By immersing ourselves in the coffee world and introducing the Athens market to remarkable, specialty coffees, we believe we’re leading the heroic lives that Joseph Campbell envisioned.

1000 Faces is an adaptive business model that can work between multiple continents and communities, through a culture of friendship, and an unwavering commitment to quality, justice, and equity. The following principles are at the core of 1000 Faces coffee:

Relationship Driven: 1000 Faces considers the customers and farmers with whom it engages to be partners, rather than consumers and producers. These dynamic and direct partnerships are essential to our mission, and to creating truly great coffee.

Stewardship: Environmentally sound land stewardship is intrinsic to our mission, and must be a fundamental concern to all our farming partners. We believe there are direct correlations between how one stewards their land, and the quality of the products that is born from it.

Equity: Every face in a thousand is equal and necessary in front of the cup. Furthermore, we believe that everyone involved in the 1000 Faces experience MUST benefit directly and equally.

Transparency: Business is intended as an open-source democratic process where voice is valued and informed. By making our practices and strategies available, we hope to be held to constant performance improvement.
