“In the entire world there are only a few sounds that bring joy to all but the most jaded. One is the murmur of a kitten purring. Another is the thwack of a well-pitched baseball hitting a perfectly swung bat. And the third is the pop of a cork being pulled from a bottle of wine.” —George Taber

Dalliance 2015 Lake County Red Blend

Tasting notes:

Friends invited us over for burgers, baked potato salad, and grilled broccoli (all excellent) – so I was able to enlist them in helping with the rattage. We decided to wait until after dinner to do our tasting. Four of us total. We did not discuss while tasting – I just gave some suggestions for aspects to evaluate (nose, taste, color, finish)

#1 Deep rich color – garnet; Leggy; Full nose – currant, dark cherry. Dry finish.

#2 Nice color – ruby; legs – long lasting; nose - fruity aroma, woody smell, berry scent; taste – spicy, hints of chocolate, slight peppery taste, deep cherry taste. Dry finish – does not linger.

#3 Rich, deep garnet color; mild to moderate nose – pepper, meaty; taste – eucalyptus, menthol, alcohol, cherry, oak, pepper; medium body – dry, tart finish.

#4 Color – very deep ruby, not purple – no sediment; nose – medium alcohol, black pepper, raspberry, cherry. Taste – umami, alcohol comes through as some residual sweetness, cherry but no fruit bomb. Unsaturated. Medium body. Short finish. Not astringent.

Overall: Would have gone fine with the burgers. Not enough acid to hold up to a steak. A drink now wine that would not likely improve with age. Completely accessible right now. I guessed alc. at 14.5 (it is 14.6) Petit Syrah in blend likely there for color.

Thanks for the opportunity. Hope it helps.
