“In the entire world there are only a few sounds that bring joy to all but the most jaded. One is the murmur of a kitten purring. Another is the thwack of a well-pitched baseball hitting a perfectly swung bat. And the third is the pop of a cork being pulled from a bottle of wine.” —George Taber

I debated the readers merlot a few weeks back and found it oaky, dark and a bit hot. Can anyone tell me if this is representative of the wineries house style? The only other bottle we have had is the rose which we loved.

Other than mill jumping in early, this sure seems like a Saturday.

+1. There doesn't seem to be much participation from the wineries or tasting notes from the community on a regular basis. I buy from the wineries I know, but don't jump on unfamiliar offers much any more for this reason.

Did your legendary friend Nick tell you Bledsoe played for UW Huskies? If so, Nick doesn't know what he's talking about. Bledsoe played three seasons for WSU Cougars before he was drafted.

About Waterbrook "hot and oaky" merlot. During the early years of Waterbrook that wasn't their style. When they were bought out in 2008 by Precept, I would be surprised if they are taking too many shortcuts since the same wine maker from the early days has stayed on. Two days ago I had a bottle of their recent release of their red blend "Melange." Just as good as it was almost 20 years ago.
