Woot Cellars + Corkscrew

Ha-HA! You thought we were so scared to go back down in our cellars after we saw that big spider. But guess what? We took a deep breath, closed our eyes, and sprinted down and back with a handful of bottles! We didn't see the spider, but we assume he's down there, so order now. This could be your very last chance. We don't want to go down there again.

I'm sure that the FBomb was good and not too surprised that the retail price might go up as the availability goes down....

But $1019 for a 6 pack!?!

I think it's now a running joke. One of the earlier sales had this same typo and some people lost their minds.

Stocked on Phat Goose and Fruit Bomber already... worth it if you do not have any yet (or drank them all). The phat goose is drinking better now than when first released.

Speaking of Woot Cellars... I hope we see a new Woot Cellars red released next week! It is after all the first full week of October which has been the main release week for WC reds for years... except last year.

Pretty please?

+1 on shipping - was there some big change in online shipping laws that I am not aware of that just happened? I just bought the case of Phat Goose w/ the T shirt and it went to NH just fine - now the list has shrunk to a piddly 10-15 states??? Was this broad-sweeping legislation that forced this change or as Woot simply decided that they don't want to pay certain states' fees?

Awww @#$*& never mind, think I just found the answer myself:

http://shipcompliantblog.com/

Does anyone else read this as the government shutdown throwing a huge wrench into wineries shipping to states where they need to access specific web-sites to process the permits to do so?

Boo, hiss! Let's hope this shut down ends soon for the sake of Woot and all the other wineries with big online sales footprints out there...

This started in August for NYS, and soon spread to several other states, so no, not related to the federal shutdown. There's a discussion about it under the "world of ww" tab -- though the title addresses NY, it's about the clampdown generally.

Speaking of clampdowns, ETA that I still love The Clash.

Really enjoying the Phat Goose. Glad I got in on the $100 case deal. Gotta say these are the most difficult bottles to uncork I've ever seen.

I had just about gotten that vision out if my mind enough to open one and try it for the first time... You had to go there... Just as well, should probably let them sit for a few weeks after what seemed like a month of shipping.

Any tasting notes on these? Phat Goose seems popular; what about the others?

My notes on Fruit Bomber:

3/31/2013 rated 86 points: My first tasting notes in November were as follows: "Not really sure what to make of this wine. It is exactly what it is supposed to be. A fruit bomb with some sugar and lot of alcohol. Two years ago I would have absolutely loved this wine, but I find myself wanting more. A little acidity and a little less heat. Still a decent wine, but I would not buy it again for the price (which I thought was high to begin with for a woot cellars)."

I would say it still fairly consistent, though I think the alcohol has mellowed a bit. Definitely still a fruity blast lacking in any significant acid backbone. I did enjoy it a little more than the first time around, but still agrue that the QPR is nothing to brag about at the price point. In the $10-12 range this would be an awesome evening sipper. My notes on Phat Goose:

12/26/2012 rated 86 points: I have very limited experience with Grenache, but if you had asked me what the majority of this blend was made of, I would have guessed Cab Franc, not Grenache. To me it seemed to have the body of a grenache or pinot noir, but the flavor profile of a cab franc. Medium to lighter bodied, with peppery, vegital notes (green pepper) on the palate. I think some of the more prominent green notes blew off after being opened for a little while and more fruit started showing through. I didn't get a lot of oak on this, but often-times I taste that more as a peppery note than an oak note, so it could be present here.

I definitely liked this better after some air time, and in the future will decant before drinking. This was a nice easy drinker and solid QPR. I'm sure this will be fine for a few years, but I don't see this evolving much over that time. (1354 views)

Enjoyed a couple of bottles of the Phat Goose over the last couple of months, great wine for the price IMHO.

A co-worker and I decided to split a 6-Pack of F-Bomb 2012 Riesling Blend and the Woot Cellars Phat Goose 6-Pack.

I've been wanting to try the F-Bomb 2012 Riesling Blend, so a great way to use my So Be It Pinot snafu coupon (still wish I got my 12 bottles

So sad. This is the only time I've NOT been able to have a wine shipped to me on winewoot!

It's worse since I've bought WootCellars wines before, AND I have 2 states I can ship to - both not on this list.

$500 worth of wine in my cart that won't get bought and shared with friends.

Well, heck. Arizona is off the list for all of them this time. Guess I'll be saving some money.
