What the hell is wrong with the picture?
All the bottles except the one in the foreground are upside down!
Does this mean we should dump it out?
Shotgun the wine?
Wash the dog in it?
(Irish Setter!)

If you want, you pay...
But, if you need, you pay more!

There is much more than a 'slight' fiz in some bottles of this wine. I bought a whole case the last time it was offered and the first two bottles were just a little bubbly. But the next two were in-your-face fizzy, to the point where I was coughing after the first sip. I was pretty much horrified when that happened because I had given a bottle away as a gift when I found it to be only slightly fizzy. I'm most of the way through the case, and at least half of them have required decanting for an hour or two to get rid of the fizz. It's too bad, because it is a good cab and I found the description to be quite accurate. But I won't be ordering this again....you never know what you're going to get.

I know! I'm in upstate NY and used to be able to have wine shipped here, thru woot and other websites... and when I went to the "free the grapes" link from the rules and restrictions page, NY says direct shipping allowed. what gives?!? http://freethegrapes.org/

This is only one person's opinion.....

Price is right for an every day drinker but the time it needs to breathe and "the finish" are not the quality that I enjoy....

I know people "disparage" the Copa around here at times.....But for the same price....The Copa is miles ahead....

As I said....

My opinion.....

Yes, I totally agree. Same is true with the Zin. Won't buy this again.

So, this is what happens when wineries sell you "unfiltered" wine with slight residual sugar. This gives you a secondary fermentation in the bottle. Unfiltered wine is trendy, but filtration serves a purpose...to get rid of yeast that remain in wine!

Bought a case as I loved this wine and mine was also bubbly and tasted horrible...what a waste. I'm also now scared to order or buy this wine anywhere because it tasted soooo bad!

Noted before:

rjquillin wrote:full article
Wine Library vice president Brandon Warnke was unavailable for comment, but the NYSLA's letter is already making waves among the online wine retailer community. Online retailer Wine.Woot has changed its policy this week and is no longer shipping wine to New York. "Wine Library is a member of the National Association of Wine Retailers, so it's a concern for us. I'm concerned for our own store. I'm concerned for wine consumers in this country. This is not the direction we should be heading," Posner said. "We want to be opening up doors, not closing them."

Yell at your NY legislators and tell them to fix the NYSLA.

Fizz in and of itself, think méthode champenoise, is a wonderful thing, but if excessive or unwanted contaminates enter the process results can evolve otherwise.

The idea is to keep the cork from drying out if you plan on storing the wine. Dry cork = broken cork bits in your wine when you finally open it.

Whatever keeps you happy, but it really makes little difference unless your storing it for more than 3-4 years.

My CT notes for this wine: "Dark cherries on the palate with creamy vanilla oak, medium body and moderate tannins. I detected only the slightest trace of secondary fermentation upon PnP, it seems to have mostly resolved itself in-bottle and this wine is drinking nicely right now."

From other reviews, it appears that there is a lot of bottle variation. Some bottles may have almost no effervescence whatsoever, while others may be quite fizzy.

Of the 6 bottles I purchased back in 11/2011, I gifted 2 before I knew there might be an issue but the two I drank subsequently (4/12/13 and 7/21/13) both had very little effervescence and were quite enjoyable.

Drinking a bottle of this tonight from the last time it was on Woot. Definitely has the slight fizz. This one is a bit less than the last bottle. Too bad. I was just at the Sextant winery yesterday picking up my fall membership box. Typically a great wine, but I'm passing on another purchase of this vintage because the fizz from last time can't speak well to what will happen when this ships.

Purchased some from Groupon, all had significant fizz. Actually left a bottle open in the fridge overnight and still got a decent amount of fizz. Definitely needs to decant.

Once it settles down, it's a pretty enjoyable bottle. Appears intended to be drunk young, as the tannins are soft and make it a pretty easy worknight drink.

Open the last bottle last night from the half-case ordered from here. While a little less fizzy than the first bottle, I still did not like the initial fizziness. After swirling in the glass for a few minutes it was better (didn't want to break out the decanter for just one glass). Once pass the fizz, the wine is good. Still disappointed though.

Just opened two of the four remaining bottles we have of this and it was NASTY! There is a fiz that makes me think it was carbonated! It smells great, but the second you get some on your tongue it's over. Very disappointed. I'm no expert, but this must be the definition of "corked" wine.... I know we drank a couple of bottles when we got this and it was fine. There must be some sort of bottling issue -- we stored it on its side like every other bottle we have and the corks looked fine as far as we could tell.

I believe if you decant it for a while, the fizz will lessen.
