Poll: Do you decant your wine?
  • 11.2% - Of course, anything less would be uncivilized 182
  • 32.8% - If I'm doing it up right, maybe 531
  • 56% - No 907
1620 votes

Well, how do you fare compared to the Zeitgeist? Chat up your fellow wooters and let us know how lame this poll was or what obvious choices we missed. For example: Was this poll a) STUPID, b) DUMB, c) POINTLESS or d) ALL OF THE ABOVE?

Normally we use the Vinturi aerator, so I don't have to dirty any glass container that can't go in the dishwasher.

I've got at least ten different crystal decanters from the family, four of which are wine. You had best believe I'm going to decant ALL THE THINGS!!1! and get full damned use out of this stuff. And, yeah, I won't pretend I don't enjoy using the heavy crystal whilst imagining I'm lording it up in the plush library of some noble hunting lodge in the sharp midnight bleakness of the Scottish Highlands.

If I don't want to waste time decanting, I just gurgle.

Did you mean to say "Do you aerate your wine?" Because decant means to pour which you have to do even if you are drinking directly from the bottle.

Depends on the situation. Generally slow ox in bottle or only decant for sediment and then back into the bottle. Air will help the wine open up over time but will also eventually make it fall apart. In my experience, too much air at once can cause this to happen too quickly, especially for older and more delicate wines.

I'll start doing it if you think it will improve the box wine I buy.

I prefer to shoplift the box. It makes Château Fred taste better!

How do you drink the wine if you don't decan it? (Actually thought of it before reading this post, but had to give props where deserved!)

Ahhh.... yes....

A bottle of MD 20-20 needs some time to breath.
Then you can put it in a paper sack & gulp it.

Actually, I'm a micro-brew drinker.

Does Woot need to do daily wine polls again:

A: Well yeah!
B: Meh, who cares.
C: Wait, there used to be daily wine polls?

If the wootxperts tell me it needs to breathe, then yes.

Seriously. And who does this newcomer think he is, getting on our case like that?
